Introduction of tall grasses in Serbia agricultural production and using biomass as alternative fuel

AB  - This research involved four perennial species belonging to the family of grasses (fam. Poaceae) characterized by intensive annual vegetative biomass growth and stalk height of above two meters. These are rush wheatgrass (Thinopyrum ponticum), switch grass (Panicum virgatum), elephant grass (Arundo donax) and miscanthus (Miscanthus × giganteus). These species originate from a large geographical area and are well adapted to various agro-ecological conditions. They are suitable for growing on soils with low natural fertility, on which most cultivated plants fail. The produced biomass (fresh or dry) is used to obtain gaseous, liquid and solid biofuels. Owing to their high tolerance to soil conditions, they are increasingly used for phytoremediation of devastated surfaces in the process of recultivation. During the vegetation season, these species incorporate significant quantities of carbon dioxide and other gases from the atmosphere. Production technology for these plants is simple and can be implemented using standard agricultural mechanization. Highest investments are required in the first year, when crops are established, with production costs significantly dropping in subsequent years. According to data from our own investigations, as well as results of other authors, costs for establishing crops amount to 4,000-4,500 EUR/ha, depending on the species. Biomass yields in the year of establishing are relatively low and do not cover production costs, but from the second or third year, high yields that justify the investment in growing these energy crops are realized. Depending on the species, as well as the maintaining of crops, established plants can be used for up to twenty years, which in the end fully justifies growing tall grasses for producing biofuels, but also for phytoremediation of devastated soils.

AB  - Četvorogodišnji mikroogledi su postavljeni 2015. godine i izvedeni
na poljoprivrednim površinama sela Petkovica (opština Šabac). Predmet
istraţivanja bila je domaća sorta pasulja Sremac, koja je sejana u prolećnom roku,
a u 2018. godini i postrno. Proizvodnja je organizovana na vrlo siromašnom
zemljištu teškog mehaničkog sastava sa preovlaĎujućom fizičkom glinom (oko
68%) pa je uz mineralna NPK hraniva korišćena i organska biomasa (kompost i
saturacioni mulj). Pasulj je gajen na većim površinama uz primenu standardne
tehnologije proizvodnje, a posle setve obeleţavane su eksperimentalne parcele.
Tokom izvoĎenja ogleda detaljno su analizirani osnovni meteorološki podaci vodni
reţim i raspored toplote u vegetacionom periodu pasulja. Prva i treća godina bile
su sa značajno manjim količinama padavina u periodu april-septembar i sa dugim
sušnim periodima tokom leta, dok su druga i četvrta godina imale vrlo povoljan
reţim padavina. Varijabilnost vremenskih uslova značajno je uticala na visinu
ostvarenih prinosa, a u četvrtoj godini omogućila i uspešnu postrnu setvu (Vasić i
sar., 2007).
Osnovni cilj istraţivanja bio je da se utvrdi koliki prinos zrna se moţe ostvariti
sortom koja je tolerantna na sušu i podesna za gajenje u suvom ratarenju. Na
osnovu ostvarenih prinosa, obračunatih materijalnih troškova i angaţovanja
mehanizacije, odreĎeno je procentualno učešće varijabilnih troškova proizvodnje u
ceni proizvoda. Dobijene vrednosti mogu posluţiti kao preporuka malim
farmerima kako uz najpodesnije agrotehničke metode mogu ostvariti što veći bruto
finansijski rezultat u proizvodnji pasulja.
AB  - The four-year field trials were set in 2015 and carried out on
agricultural surfaces of the village village Petkovic (municipality Sabac). The
subject of the research was beans, domestic variety Sremac, which was sown in the
spring, and in 2018, as stubble crop. Beans are grown on a very poor soil with a
heavy mechanical composition with a predominant physical clay (about 68%).
Therefore, organic (compost and saturated sludge) and NPK mineral fertilizers are
used in the nutrition of plants. The beans are grown on large plots with the
application of standard production technology. Experimental plots were marked
after sowing. During the experiment, the detailed meteorological data were
analyzed in detail by the water regime and the distribution of heat in the vegetation
period of the bean. Basic meteorological data (water regime, and heat distribution)
were analyzed during the vegetation period of beans. The first and third years were
with significantly smaller amounts of precipitation in the period April-September
and with long drought periods during the summer, while the second and fourth
years had a very favorable precipitation regime. Variability of weather conditions
significantly influenced the amount of yields achieved, and in the fourth year
enabled successful stubble sowing (Vasić et al., 2007).
The basic aim of the research was to determine the extent of grain yield can be
achieved by a drought tolerant variety and suitable for growing in dry cropping
system. On the basis of realized yields, calculated material costs and engagement
of mechanization, the percentage participation of variable production determined is
costs in the price of the product. The values obtained can be used as a
recommendation to small farmers to achieve the highest gross financial result in
the production of beans with the most suitable scientific farming methods.

AB  - Rezultati trogodišnjih mikroogleda, predstavljeni u ovom radu, deo
su višegodišnjih istraživanja započetih 2012. godine na oglednom polju u Surduku.
Predmet istraživanja je miskantus, klon uvezen iz Nemačke za potrebe introdukcije
u poljoprivrednu proizvodnju energetskih useva. Zasad je zasnovan na černozemu
na lesnoj zaravni koji pripada kategoriji najplodnijih zemljišta. U periodu 2016-
2018., postavljene su dve varijante istraživanja (kontrola i varijanta sa
prihranjivanjem azotom). Tokom godišnjeg životnog ciklusa praćena je dinamika
porasta biljaka, merenjem morfoloških pokazatelja u fenofazama najvažnijim za
formiranje prinosa stabala. Posle berbe određeni su sadržaj vode i celuloze u
vazdušno suvim stablima i obračunat prinos stabala. Dobijene vrednosti poređene
su po godinama istraživanja da bi se odredio uticaj meteoroloških činilaca na
godišnji porast miskantusa. Dobijeni rezultati pokazuju da miskantus vrlo dobro
uspeva na plodnom zemljištu dajući visoku produkciju biomase. U trogodišnjem
proseku dobijeno je 24.990 kg ha-1 vazdušno suvih stabala. Miskantus je tolerantan
na letnje suše zahvaljujući snažnom i dubokohodnom korenovom sistemu koji se
svake godine razvija i pojedine žile prodiru u duboke slojeve zemljišta. Tokom
istraživanja u sve tri godine bilo je manje padavina od uslovno-optimalnih, ali je
najpovoljniji mesečni raspored bio u 2018. godini. Raspored padavina u periodu
april-oktobar ima najveću značaj na bokorenje, porast stabala i ukupan prinos
biomase. U trogodišnjem proseku prihranjivanje azotom značajno je povećalo
prinos suvih stabala, ali je efekat dopunske ishrane biljaka bio najveći u godini sa
najpovoljnijim vodnim režimom. Proučavani tretmani nisu uticali na sadržaj
celuloze u suvim stablima.
AB  - The results of three-year plot trials are part of several years of
research started in 2012 in the field of Surduk. The subject of the research is a
mischantus, a clone imported from Germany for introduction to energy crops
production. The plantation has been formed on chernozem, which belongs to the
category of the most fertile soils. In period 2016-2018 were two variants – control
and variant with nitrogen top dressing. During the annual life cycle, the dynamics
of plant growth are monitored by measuring morphological indicators in phenophases
most important for the formation of dry stalks yields. After harvest during
the winter, the content of water and cellulose in dry stalks were determined and the
calculated yield of stalks. The obtained values of the morphological indicators and
the yield were compared with the years of research in order to determine the effect
of meteorological factors on the annual increase in the miscanthus.
The results show that miscanthus grows well in fertile soil giving a high yield
of dry stalks. The miskantus is tolerant of summer drought because it has a well
developed root system. In the period April-October 2016-2018 there was less
precipitation than the needs of plants, but the month schedule was most favorable
in 2018. In the three-year average, nitrogen storage significantly increased the
yield of dry stalks, but the effect of top dressing was the highest in the year with
the highest rainfall. The studied treatments did not affect the cellulose content in
dry stalks.

Alternativne žitarice u Srbiji u sistemu održive poljoprivredne proizvodnje

AB  - Suvremena ratarska proizvodnja ima izraženo geografsko, ekološko, ekonomsko i društveno obilježje. Prema navedenim osobinama može se podijeliti na tradicionalnu, konvencionalnu i održivu poljoprivredu. Tradicionalna ratarska proizvodnja u nas prevladava na malim obiteljskim imanjima. Poljoprivredni proizvodi koriste se za potrebe članova domaćinstva I ostaje malo tržišnih viškova. Unapređenje ovog sistema proizvodnje je u izmjeni strukture sjetve, odnosno uvođenju alternativnih ratarskih vrsta čiji proizvodi imaju veću tržišnu vrijednost. Za male farmere interesantan je i system održive poljoprivredne proizvodnje u okviru čega se izdvajaju tri sistema uzgajanja ratarskih biljaka. To su dobra poljoprivredna praksa, integralna I organska (ekološka ili biološka) poljoprivredna proizvodnja. Ukoliko se proizvođači odluče za neki od ova tri sistema uzgajanja, biljne vrste iz grupe alternativnih žita mogu biti pravi izbor, jer osiguravaju tržište kvalitetnim I zdravstveno sigurnim prehrambenim proizvodima. Prije nego što se odluče za ove sisteme proizvodnje farmeri treba da steknu neophodna predznanja.
