AB  - Genotype by environment interaction (GEI) is a complex problem that complicates the barley selection and breeding process. The knowledge of the relationship between cereal phenology and climatic data is important for understanding GEI and the physiological pathways responsible for the interaction effect. The grain yield of twenty winter barley genotypes in six environments was observed. Factors influencing the variability were analyzed using a linear mixed model. The partial least squares regression (PLSR) model was applied to determine the most relevant environmental variables in certain stages of development that explained GEI effects. Biplot with environmental variables explained 43.7% of the GEI. The barley was generally the most sensitive to the environmental conditions (relative humidity, maximum temperature and its variation, sun hours, and precipitation) during the anthesis and filling stage (May) which caused GEI. Temperature variables did not show significance only in the vegetative phase. Different genotypes responded differently to environmental factors. Genotypes NS-525, NS-589, and J-103 were highlighted as widely adaptable, and Zajeˇcar was a suitable and reliable location for yield testing. The GEI information presented in this paper can be useful in traditional plant breeding and future breeding programs through molecular research of crop developmental genes and examination of physiological processes in two-row barley.

AB  - Tomato, one of the most produced vegetables in the world, is experiencing continuous global increase in both production and consumption. Fruit quality traits are important for fresh market tomatoes as well as for the processing industry. Despite the growing demand for both fresh and processed tomatoes, consumers are not satisfied with the quality of available fruits. The main objectives of the present work were to determine the physicochemical characteristics [pH, total soluble solids (TSS), total titratable acids (TTA), TSS/TTA ratio, DMC, lycopene, β-carotene, vitamin C, and total phenolic content], as well as the antioxidant activity of 13 different tomato lines, and to identify the most promising ones in terms of fruit taste and quality. Antioxidant activity was determined using the ABTS and DPPH methods with Trolox used as the standard compound. PCA analysis was conducted to identify group patterns. The results of PCA analysis indicated a specific genotypic response in all investigated physicochemical traits. Genotypes 2, 10, and 13 were identified as the best for fresh consumption, as they exhibited the highest levels of compounds crucial for good taste, nutrition, and human health benefits. The most promising genotype related to fruit quality attributes was genotype 10 with the best TSS and TAA content and TSS/TAA ratio, which is important for overall taste perception. On the other hand, genotype 9 showed promise for industrial purposes due to its ideal pH value in the juice and good soluble solid content. High antioxidant activity was characteristic of genotypes 1 and 2, and their consumption as fresh tomatoes can be beneficial to human health. They also should be considered for further evaluation as potentially interesting genotypes for abiotic stress research and selection programs which can lead to the development of both superior fruit quality and stress tolerant genotypes.

AB  - Bakteriozna pegavost lišća koju izaziva Xanthomonas euvesicatoria je
jedno od najznačajnih oboljenja paprike u Srbiji. U cilju zaštite paprike, korišćeni su biološki preparati Serenade ASO, Erwix, Bakterije, Ekstrasol i Bacillomix. Kao standard korišćen je preparat na bazi bakar-hidroksida (Everest). Ogled je postavljen u Institutu za povrtarstvo u Smederevskoj
Palanci tokom leta 2023. godine. Proučavanja su obavljena na sorti paprike Paraćinka u uslovima veštačke inokulacije u stakleniku. Najefikasniji je bio preparat na bazi bakar-hidroksida (96%), dok su biološki preparati ispoljili nižu efikasnost: Serenade ASO (71%), Bakterije (61%), Ekstrasol
(61%), Erwix (55%) i Bacillomix (54%). Ipak, svi proučavani tretmani su značajno smanjili intenzitet oboljenja u odnosu na kontrolu. Eksperiment
je izveden u stakleniku bez klimatizacije, pri visokim spoljnim
temperaturama, što je moglo nepovoljno uticati na efikasnost preparata
baziranih na biološkim agensima. Prilikom narednih ogleda neophodno je
obezbediti kontrolisane uslove. Treba isprobati i različito vreme primene i
integraciju sa drugim merama zaštite.
AB  - Bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas euvesicatoria is one of the most important pepper diseases in Serbia. In order to control this disease, we
tested efficacy of commercially available biological products: Serenade
ASO, Erwix, Bakterije, Ekstrasol and Bacillomix. A preparation based on
copper hydroxide (Everest) was used as a standard treatment. The
experiment was set up at the Institute for Vegetable Crops in Smederevska
Palanka during the summer of 2023. Experiment was performed on pepper
variety Paraćinka under artificial inoculation in a greenhouse. The most efficient was the standard treatment based on copper hydroxide (96%), while tested biocontrol treatments showed statistically lower efficacy:
Serenade ASO (71%), Bacteria (61%), Ekstrasol (61%), Erwix (55%) and Bacillomix (54%). However, all tested treatments significantly reduced intensity of the disease compared to the control. The experiment was performed in a nonclimatized greenhouse, which could adversely affect the effectiveness of biocontrol treatments. Therefore, subsequent trials, should
be carried out in controlled conditions. Different application times and
integration with other protection measures should also be tested.

AB  - U cilju proučavanja efikasnosti bioloških preparata u zaštiti paprika od prouzrokovača
bakteriozne pegavosti lišća (Xanthomonas euvesicatoria), tokom leta 2023. godine, postavljen
je ogled u stakleniku Instituta za povrtarstvo u Smederevskoj Palanci. Proučavana je
efikasnost komercijalno dostupnih bioloških preparate Serenade ASO, Erwix, Bakterije,
Ekstrasol i Bacillomix. Kao standard korišćen je preparat na bazi bakar-hidroksida (Everest).
Proučavanja su obavljena na sorti paprike Paraćinka. Preparati su primenjeni u sledećim
koncentracijama: Serenade ASO (4%), Erwix (2%), Bakterije (1,5%), Ekstrasol (1%),
Bacillomix (1%) i Everest (0,5%). Eksperimentalni dizajn ogleda je potpuno slučajan plan u tri
ponavljanja sa sledećim tretmanima: (a) biljke tretirane pojedinačnim preparatima i nakon
dva sata inokulisane suspenzijom bakterija; (b) biljke tretirane samo suspenzijom bakterija
(pozitivna kontrola); (v) biljke tretirane vodom (negativna kontrola). Inokulacija je vršena u
fenofazi 8-9 listova ručnom prskalicom sojem bakterije X. euvesicatoria KFB 1 (10ˉ8 cfu/mol).
Nakon tretmana, biljke su pokrivene plastičnim kesama, radi održavanja visoke vlažnosti u
trajanju 48 časova. Prvi simptomi su uočeni 10 dana nakon inokulacije, a efikasnost preparata
ocenjena je 3 nedelje posle inokulacije. Indeks oboljenja izračunat je preko površine
nekrotičnih pega na lišću, pomoću Horsfall-Barratt skale, a efikasnost proučavanih baktericida
izračunata je korišćenjem Abbott-ove jednačine. Za statističku obradu korišćena je metoda
analize varijanse, a za pojedinačna poređenja tretmana korišćeni su Dunnett-ov i Duncan-ov
test. Intenzitet zaraze u kontroli je iznosio 53%. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata zaključuje se
da je najefikasniji bio preparat na bazi bakar-hidroksida (96%), dok su biološki preparati
ispoljili slabiji stepen efikasnosti: Serenade ASO (71%), Bakterije (61%), Ekstrasol (61%),
Erwix (55%), Bacillomix (54%). Među biološkim preparatima nije bilo statistički značajne
razlike dok je standardni tretman ispoljio značajno višu efikasnost. Treba naglasiti da je
eksperiment izveden u stakleniku bez klimatizacije pri visokim spoljnim temperaturama, što je moglo nepovoljno uticati na efikasnost preparata baziranih na biološkim agensima. Stoga je
u cilju poboljšanja efikasnosti ovih preparata, prilikom narednih ogleda, neophodno
obezbediti kontrolisane uslove, a takođe treba proučiti i različito vreme primene, kao i
integraciju sa drugim merama zaštite.

eksperiment izveden u stakleniku bez klimatizacije pri visokim spoljnim temperaturama, što je moglo nepovoljno uticati na efikasnost preparata baziranih na biološkim agensima. Stoga je
u cilju poboljšanja efikasnosti ovih preparata, prilikom narednih ogleda, neophodno
obezbediti kontrolisane uslove, a takođe treba proučiti i različito vreme primene, kao i
integraciju sa drugim merama zaštite.",

Proučavana jeefikasnost komercijalno dostupnih bioloških preparate Serenade ASO, Erwix, Bakterije,Ekstrasol i Bacillomix. Kao standard korišćen je preparat na bazi bakar-hidroksida (Everest).Proučavanja su obavljena na sorti paprike Paraćinka. Preparati su primenjeni u sledećimkoncentracijama: Serenade ASO (4%), Erwix (2%), Bakterije (1,5%), Ekstrasol (1%),Bacillomix (1%) i Everest (0,5%). Eksperimentalni dizajn ogleda je potpuno slučajan plan u triponavljanja sa sledećim tretmanima: (a) biljke tretirane pojedinačnim preparatima i nakondva sata inokulisane suspenzijom bakterija; (b) biljke tretirane samo suspenzijom bakterija(pozitivna kontrola); (v) biljke tretirane vodom (negativna kontrola). Inokulacija je vršena ufenofazi 8-9 listova ručnom prskalicom sojem bakterije X. euvesicatoria KFB 1 (10ˉ8 cfu/mol).Nakon tretmana, biljke su pokrivene plastičnim kesama, radi održavanja visoke vlažnosti utrajanju 48 časova. AB  - Apple is one of the most grown fruits in the world. Traditional apple genotypes represent an
important resource that ensures the sustainability of apple production and high diversity of
available genotypes. The aim of this study was to analyze the fruit quality and sensory
characteristics of 5 autochthonous apple genotypes from Serbia, in order to determine their
potential on the market for fresh consumption and processing industry. In order to determine
the fruit visual characteristics, morphological traits were studied (fruit ground and over color,
percentage and pattern of over color, greasiness of the skin, fruit weight, length and height and
fruit shape). In addition, length of the fruit stalk and fruit firmness were determined, as
important characteristics for fruit storability. Among the biochemical parameters, total soluble
solids and titratable acidity were determined. Sensory analysis was performed for the following
traits: attractiveness, taste, aroma, juiciness and astringency. The highest potential for fresh consumption showed "Šećeruša" and "Čagaraša" genotypes. Genotype "Đeregarka" is more suitable for processing industry due to its high content of organic acid. "Crvena Debelokorka" had low taste and aroma ratings (partially due to high astringency), but also the highest fruit
firmness, which can result in good storability. The analyzed genotypes showed diverse quality
traits and could find their place in the market and in the economy of the small farmers, but also
in breeding programs focused on quality and diversity. They should be preserved as an
important genetic resource for the sustainability of agriculture.

AB  - Drought is one of the factors that most reduces crop productivity. Water deficit
affects the morphological and physiological parameters of the plant, and some
of them can be used as indicators of plant tolerance to drought. The aim of this
experiment was to evaluate the effects of water deficit on proline content in
fruits, as well as yield parameters of two tomato lines (M7 and R83), that in
previous research showed a contrasting response in vegetative phase. Tomato
plants were grown in a glasshouse in pots during three months after planting
of seedlings. Two water regimes were applied (optimal field capacity and water
deficit - reduction of water for 30% compared to control). The content of
proline was significantly higher in the fruits of both tomato lines exposed to
water stress. The increase in proline content under stress conditions compared
to control was higher in fruits of line M7 (81.0%) compared to line R83
(35.4%). Our results showed that water deficit significantly affected fruit
diameter, length and biomass of the fruit, but did not affect the number of fruits
per plant in both tested tomato lines. The reduction of fruit yield in water deficit
conditions was higher for line M7 (31.5%) in comparison to line R83 (20.7%).
Based on the obtained results, the R83 line showed a potentially better response
to drought stress at fruit level, which is in accordance with our research results
conducted on the same lines in the vegetative phase.

AB  - Pri donošenju odluka o selekcionom materijalu na osnovu prikupljenih
podataka, oplemenjivači širom sveta sve češće koriste veštačku
inteligenciju. Termin „veštačka inteligencija“ (VI) opisuje sposobnost
mašina da oponašaju ljudsku inteligenciju. Ovaj rad ima za cilj da prikaže
način funkcionisanja VI uz objašnjenje odgovarajućih termina, kao što su:
algoritam, mašinsko učenje, duboko učenje, neuronska mreža, stabla
odlučivanja, mašine vektora podrške, obuka ili trening za razvoj VI,
računarstvo u oblaku, grafičke procesorske jedinice (GPU) i lokalni
klasteri GPU. U radu se navode aktuelni oblici korišćenja VI u
oplemenjivanju biljaka i diskutuju mogućnosti i izazovi primene VI u
narednom periodu.
AB  - When making decisions about selection material based on collected
data, breeders around the world are increasingly using artificial
intelligence. The term "artificial intelligence" (AI) describes the ability of
machines to imitate human intelligence. This paper aims to show how AI
works by explaining the relevant terms, such as: algorithm, machine
learning, deep learning, neural network, decision trees, support vector machines, training for AI, cloud computing, graphics processing units
(GPUs) and local GPU clusters. The paper lists the current forms of using
AI in plant breeding and discusses the possibilities and challenges of
using AI in the future.

abstract = "Pri donošenju odluka o selekcionom materijalu na osnovu prikupljenih
podataka, oplemenjivači širom sveta sve češće koriste veštačku
inteligenciju. Termin „veštačka inteligencija“ (VI) opisuje sposobnost
mašina da oponašaju ljudsku inteligenciju. Ovaj rad ima za cilj da prikaže
način funkcionisanja VI uz objašnjenje odgovarajućih termina, kao što su:
algoritam, mašinsko učenje, duboko učenje, neuronska mreža, stabla
odlučivanja, mašine vektora podrške, obuka ili trening za razvoj VI,
računarstvo u oblaku, grafičke procesorske jedinice (GPU) i lokalni
klasteri GPU. U radu se navode aktuelni oblici korišćenja VI u
oplemenjivanju biljaka i diskutuju mogućnosti i izazovi primene VI u
narednom periodu., When making decisions about selection material based on collected
data, breeders around the world are increasingly using artificial
intelligence. The term "artificial intelligence" (AI) describes the ability of
machines to imitate human intelligence. This paper aims to show how AI
works by explaining the relevant terms, such as: algorithm, machine
learning, deep learning, neural network, decision trees, support vector machines, training for AI, cloud computing, graphics processing units
(GPUs) and local GPU clusters. The paper lists the current forms of using
AI in plant breeding and discusses the possibilities and challenges of
using AI in the future.",

AB  - U ovom preglednom radu prvo su opisane klasične metode mutageneze
i mehanizam nastanka mutacija, a zatim su nabrojane molekularne tehnike
u mutacionom oplemenjivanju: 1. inserciona mutagneza, 2. transformacije, 3. editovanje i 4. TILLING. Najveća pažnja posvećena je TILLING tehnici kroz prikaz svake od njehih etapa. Molekularne tehnike omogućuju unos
gena za poželjne osobine u genom i unapređuju klasičnu selekciju u
mutacionim populacijama kroz analizu ciljanih mesta na genomu. Ove
prednosti molekularnih tehnika reafirmišu mutaciono oplemenjivanje
povrća i drugih grupa biljaka.
AB  - In this review paper, the classical methods of mutagenesis and the mechanism of mutations are first described, and then the molecular
techniques in mutation breeding are listed: 1. insertional mutagenesis, 2.
transformations, 3. editing and 4. TILLING. The greatest attention is paid
to the TILLING technique through the presentation of each of its stages. Molecular techniques enable the introduction of genes for desirable traits
into the genome and improve classical selection in mutational populations
through the analysis of targeted sites on the genome. These advantages of molecular techniques reaffirm the mutational breeding of vegetables and other plant groups.

AB  - Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je da se uradi procena kvaliteta plodova paradajza različitih boja. Za analizu je odabrano sedam genotipova
paradajza (svetložuti, tamnožuti, narandžasti, žuto-zeleni, crveno-zeleni, crveno-žuti i crveni). Kvalitet plodova paradajza je okarakterisan na
osnovu ukupne rastvorljive čvrste materije (TSS), titrabilne kiselosti (TA), sadržaja likopena i ukupne antioksidativne aktivnosti (TAA). Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da ima značajnih razlika između testiranih genotipova
u analiziranim parametrima. Genotip sa žuto-zelenim plodom imao je
najbolji ukus zbog visokih vrednosti TSS, TA i njihovog odnosa (indeksa
ukusa), ali nizak sadržaj likopena i TAA. Najveću vrednost TAA imao je genotip sa svetložutom bojom ploda, verovatno zbog prisustva ß-karotena
i nekih antioksidanata iz grupe polifenola, jer je sadržaj likopena bio nizak.
Takođe, visoke vrednosti TAA imali su genotipovi sa crvenom bojom
ploda i kombinacijom crvene sa zelenom i žutom bojom, zbog visokog
sadržaja likopena.
AB  - The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of tomato fruits of different colors. Seven tomato genotypes (light yellow, dark yellow, orange, yellow green, red green, red yellow and red) were selected for analysis. Tomato fruit quality was characterized based on total soluble
solids (TSS), titratable acidity (TA), lycopene content and total antioxidant activity (TAA). The obtained results showed that there are significant differences between the tested genotypes in the analyzed parameters. The
genotype with yellow green fruit had the best taste due to the high values
of TSS, TA and their ratio (taste index), but low content of lycopene and
TAA. The genotype with light yellow fruit color had the highest TAA
value, probably due to the presence of ß-carotene and some antioxidants from the polyphenol group, as the lycopene content was low. Genotypes
with red fruit color and a combination of red with green and yellow color also had high TAA values, due to the high lycopene content.

AB  - Proučavanja štetnih vrsta insekata na paradajzu (Solanum
lycopersicum L.), na oglednim i proizvodnim parcelama Instituta za
povrtarstvo u Smederevskoj Palanci, obavljena su korišćenjem
standardnih entomoloških metoda i pribora. Na paradajzu, na
posmatranim površinama, u zaštićenom prostoru i na otvorenom polju,
registrovane su četiri vrste insekata: duvanova sovica (Helicoverpa
armigera Hübner), moljac paradajza (Tuta absoluta Meyrick),
kalifornijski cvetni trips (Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande)) i zelena
povrtna stenica (Nezara viridula (L.)). Veća oštećenja izazvale su H.
armigera i T. absoluta, čije su larve nanele štetu hraneći se i na
vegetativnim i na generativnim organima paradajza, dok su F.
occidentalis i N. viridula bile manje zastupljene ne nanoseći veća
oštećenja.
AB  - Studies of harmful insect species on tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in the experimental and production fields of the Institute for Vegetable Crops in Smederevska Palanka were carried out using standard entomological methods and equipment. Four species of insects were registered on tomatoes, on the observed  fields, in the greenhouses and in the open field: the tobacco bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera Hübner), the tomato leafminer (Tuta absoluta Meyrick), the western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande)) and the Southern green stink bug (Nezara viridula (L.)). Highest damage was caused by H. armigera and T. absoluta, whose larvae caused damage by feeding on both vegetative and generative organs of tomato, while F. occidentalis and N. viridula were less abundant and did not cause more damage.

Four species of insects were registered on tomatoes, on the observed  fields, in the greenhouses and in the open field: the tobacco bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera Hübner), the tomato leafminer (Tuta absoluta Meyrick), the western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande)) and the Southern green stink bug (Nezara viridula (L.)). Highest damage was caused by H. armigera and T. absoluta, whose larvae caused damage by feeding on both vegetative and generative organs of tomato, while F. occidentalis and N. viridula were less abundant and did not cause more damage.

AB  - Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da se ispita uticaj vodnog deficita na
sadržaj prolina i hlorofila, lipidnu peroksidaciju i na vegetativni rast

gajene u stakleniku i primenjivana su tri vodna režima (100, 70 i 50%
poljskog kapaciteta). Naši rezultati su pokazali da je prosečan sadržaj
prolina bio veći u listovima izloženim vodnom deficitu kod obe linije, pri
čemu je kod linije R83 razlika ranije registrovana i bila je veća kod
tretmana vodnog deficita 50% poljskog kapaciteta. Nije nađena razlika u
lipidnoj peroksidaciji između tretmana kod linije M7, dok je kod linije
R83 ona bila povećana kod tretmana vodnog deficita od 50% poljskog
kapaciteta. Sadržaj hlorofila je bio sličan između tretmana kod ispitivanih
linija. Redukcija rastenja u uslovima suše bila je izraženija kod linije M7.
Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata možemo zaključiti da linija R83 ima
potencijalno bolji odgovor na sušu.
AB  - The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the effects of water deficit on proline and chlorophyll content, lipid peroxidation and plant vegetative growth in the leaves of two tomato lines (M7 and R83). Tomato plants were grown in a glasshouse and three water regimes were applied (100, 70 and 50% field capacity). Our results showed that the average proline content was higher in the leaves exposed to water deficit of both lines, whereas in the line R83  this difference was registered earlier and was higher in the treatment the 50% field capacity treatment. No difference in lipid peroxidation was found between treatments of the line M7 , while lipid peroxidation was increased in the 50% field capacity treatment of the line R83. Chlorophyll content was similar between treatments in the tested lines. Growth reduction in drought conditions was more pronounced in the line M7. Based on the obtained results, we can conclude that the line R83 has a potentially better response to drought.

AB  - Salata (Lactuca sativa L.) je jednogodišnja biljka, sa umerenim
zahtevima prema faktorima spoljašnje sredine, kratkim vegetacionim
periodom i mogućnošću gajenja tokom cele godine. Ogledi sa šest
genotipova salate (‘Kiribati’, ‘Murai’, ‘Aquino’, ‘Gaugin’, ‘Aleppo’,
‘Carmesi’) bili su postavljeni u kompaniji Iceberg Salat Centar. Biljke su
gajene u plasteniku, bez dodatnog grejanja, tokom tri uzastopne sezone
(jesen, zima i proleće), primenom mikrobioloških đubriva (EM Aktiv,
Vital Tricho i njihova kombinacija). Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da se
utvrdi uticaj genotipa, mikrobioloških đubriva i sezone na sadržaj ukupno
rastvorljivih materija i organskih kiselina. Najveću vrednost ukupno
rastvorljivih materija i organskih kiselina ostvarila je crvena sorta ‘Murai‘
u zimskom ogledu primenom đubriva Vital Tricho i EM Aktiv redom.
Primena đubriva uglavnom nije uticala na vrednosti ukupno rastvorljivih
materija i organskih kiselina, gde je tokom svih sezona sadržaj ostao
stabilan. Istraživanje je pokazalo da su glavni faktori uticali na
posmatrane parametre, sa izraženim uticajem genotipa.

AB  - Drought affected growth and productivity of vegetables by inducing different changes in
plants, which consequently reduces the yield and its quality. The aim of this work was to evaluate
the effect of moderate drought stress on physiological and biochemical parameters of the cultivated
tomato genotype Stupicke. Plants were grown in the greenhouse and exposed to water
deficit from anthesis of 2nd flower truss until fruit harvesting (red-ripe stage). Control plants were
optimally irrigated, while treated plants were exposed to drought and soil humidity was maintained
around 25% of maximum WHC. Drought-induced reduction of leaf growth parameters was
followed by changes in stomata conductance and photochemical efficiency. The results of biochemical
analysis indicated that the soluble sugar content decreased under drought conditions,
while organic acid level and vitamin C was increased. The significant decrease in fruit diameter
and dry matter content was accompanied with stable sugars and organic acid content which implicates
the maintenance of main fruit taste components under water deficit. The drought also affected
the level of other important nutritional components by the increase of the total carotenoid
and vitamin C content. Accumulation of the vitamin C in leaves and fruits are also a response
to secondary, oxidative stress under prolonged drought, while the increase of ABA content in
both organs is related to drought adaptive responses. These results indicated the potential of this
genotype for breeding programs to create new drought-resistant tomato lines with the stable or
improved nutritional fruit quality under variable environmental conditions.

AB  - Water deficit can be a trigger of physiological and biochemical changes in leaves, that could be
important for overall plant adaptive response and it can affect tomato yield and quality. This experiment
was conducted to evaluate the effects of water deficit on proline content and lipid peroxidation
in leaves of two tomato lines (M7 and R83). Our previous research has shown that there
are differences in the biochemical characteristics of both lines during the reproductive phase.
Accordingly, it is to be expected that there will be differences even in the early stages of plant
development. Tomato plants were grown in a glasshouse and two water regimes were applied
(optimal field capacity and water deficit - reduction of water for 70% compared to control), during
three weeks after planting of seedlings. Our results showed that proline content and lipid peroxidation
in the tomato leaves were fluctuated according to water content in the substrate, and it
also depended on the genotype. The content of proline was significantly higher in the leaves of
both tomato lines exposed to water stress. Similar to the content of proline, the lipid peroxidation

was conducted to evaluate the effects of water deficit on proline content and lipid peroxidation

are differences in the biochemical characteristics of both lines during the reproductive phase.
Accordingly, it is to be expected that there will be differences even in the early stages of plant
development. Tomato plants were grown in a glasshouse and two water regimes were applied
(optimal field capacity and water deficit - reduction of water for 70% compared to control), during
three weeks after planting of seedlings. Our results showed that proline content and lipid peroxidation
in the tomato leaves were fluctuated according to water content in the substrate, and it
also depended on the genotype. The content of proline was significantly higher in the leaves of
both tomato lines exposed to water stress. Similar to the content of proline, the lipid peroxidation
was significantly higher in tomato leaves of the M7 line in contrast to the R83 line, where no significant

AB  - Kvalitet ploda kruške je izuzetno značajan, kako za potrošnju u sirovom stanju, tako i za prerađivačku industriju. Posebno je ekonomski značajna sorta Vilijamovka, za čije gajenje su bitni i prateći oprašivači, kao što je sorta Fetelova (Abate Fetel). Rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da je sorta Fetelova bolja u pogledu morfoloških osobina ploda u odnosu na Vilijamovku, zbog čega je pogodnija za stonu potrošnju. Biohemijska analiza je ukazala na izuzetan kvalitet sorte Vilijamovka u odnosu na Fetelova na osnovu sadržaja rastvorljivih suvih materija, ukupnih šećera i organskih kiselina. Senzorička analiza je potvrdila prednost sorte Vilijamovka u pogledu izgleda, ukusa, arome i sočnosti plodova, dok su plodovi sorte Fetelova imali veći indeks slasti. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata može se zaključiti da su obe ekonomski važne sorte kruški imale kvalitetne plodove sa izuzetnim senzoričkim osobinama, što ih čini posebno atraktivnim za potrošače.
AB  - The quality of the pear fruit is extremely important, both for fresh consumption and for the processing industry. The Williams Bartlett variety is especially economically significant, and for its cultivation are important supporting pollinizers, like Abate Fetel variety. The research results showed that the Abate Fetel variety is better in terms of the morphological characteristics of the fruit compared to the Williams Bartlett variety, which is why it is more suitable for fresh consumption. Biochemical analysis indicated the exceptional quality of the Williams Bartlett variety compared to Abate Fetel based on the content of soluble dry matter, total sugars and organic acids. Sensory analysis confirmed the advantage of the Williams Bartlett variety in terms of appearance, taste, aroma and juiciness of the fruits, while the fruits of the Williams Bartlett variety had a higher sweetness index. Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that both economically important varieties of pears had quality fruits with exceptional sensory properties, which makes them particularly attractive for consumers.

Ogledi sa šestgenotipova salate (‘Kiribati’, ‘Murai’, ‘Aquino’, ‘Gaugin’, ‘Aleppo’,‘Carmesi’) bili su postavljeni u kompaniji Iceberg Salat Centar. Biljke sugajene u plasteniku, bez dodatnog grejanja, tokom tri uzastopne sezone(jesen, zima i proleće), primenom mikrobioloških đubriva (EM Aktiv,Vital Tricho i njihova kombinacija). Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da seutvrdi uticaj genotipa, mikrobioloških đubriva i sezone na sadržaj ukupnorastvorljivih materija i organskih kiselina. Najveću vrednost ukupnorastvorljivih materija i organskih kiselina ostvarila je crvena sorta ‘Murai‘u zimskom ogledu primenom đubriva Vital Tricho i EM Aktiv redom.Primena đubriva uglavnom nije uticala na vrednosti ukupno rastvorljivihmaterija i organskih kiselina, gde je tokom svih sezona sadržaj ostaostabilan. Istraživanje je pokazalo da su glavni faktori uticali naposmatrane parametre, sa izraženim uticajem genotipa.
AB  - Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is an annual plant, with moderate requirements to environmental factors, short vegetation period and the possibility to cultivate throughout whole year. Trials with six lettuce cultivars (‘Kiribati’, ‘Murai’, ‘Aquino’, ‘Gaugin’, ‘Aleppo’, ‘Carmesi’) were set up in the company Iceberg Salat Centar. The plants were grown in a greenhouse, without additional heating, during three consecutive seasons (autumn, winter and spring), using microbiological fertilisers (EM Aktiv, Vital Tricho and their combination). The aim of this study was to determine the influence of genotype, microbiological fertilisers and season on the content of total soluble solids and organic acids. The highest value of total soluble solids and organic acids showed red cultivar 'Murai' in the winter trial using fertilisers Vital Tricho and EM Aktiv, respectively. Application of fertilisers generally did not affect the values of total soluble solids and organic acids, whereas the content remained stable during all seasons. The research showed that the main factors influenced tested parameters, with a great impact of the genotype.

AB  - Traditional crop varieties are a useful source of desirable characteristics for developing a new cultivars with improved nutritive and sensory attributes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fruit quality parameters in three traditional tomato genotypes: pink, yellow and dark colors. The results showed that yellow colored tomato had the highest TSS/TTA ratio and antioxidative activity, but the lowest content of lycopene and β-carotene. Genotypic differences in the carotenoid compo-nents are also confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. The advantage of the yellow tomato genotype related to fruit quality compounds compared to others genotypes indicated its potential in a breed-ing program.

The effect of year and genotype on productivity and quality of potato

AB  - Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is characterized by specific temperature requirements and develops best at about 20°C. High temperatures during the growing season cause an array of changes in potato plants, which affect its development and may lead to a drastic reduction in economic yield. Under natural conditions, drought and heat stress are two different types of abiotic stresses that occur in the field simultaneously or separately, especially in conditions without irrigation in potato production. This study aimed to examine the productivity of nine potato varieties in agro-ecological conditions of western Serbia and to find the genotypes that will give satisfactory and high yields. The field experiment was carried out with varieties: Cleopatra, Anuschka, Presto, Kuroda, Omega, Dita, Desiree, Roko and Jelly. The impact year and genotype on potato plants were tested during a four-year period (2010-2013). The final harvest was performed after the full maturity of plants in September. Our studies confirmed that potato marketable yield and total yield are greatly reduced at temperatures higher than optimal and deficit precipitation during the growing season. Here we demonstrated that the tested potato cultivar’s response to heat stress and drought in the growing season is dependent on the longer the adverse effects and the growth stage. The earlier a heat and drought occurs, the more negative the impact on the growth and productive traits of potatoes. The results obtained in this study indicate that among the tested cultivars Cleopatra was the most tolerant to heat and drought stress acting on the plants during the growing season. Our research shows that the total yield was not the only indicator of potato tolerance to abiotic stress during the growing season, but the assessment should also take into account the occurrence of secondary tuberization and physiological defects of tubers. These studies confirm that Cleopatra had the largest share (82%) of market tubers in relation to the total yield and to have the best predisposition for the highest economic yield of tubers. Our experiment showed that heat and drought tolerant potato cultivars could be used to mitigate the effects of global warming in Serbia and wider Western Balkans regions.

abstract = "Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is characterized by specific temperature requirements and develops best at about 20°C. High temperatures during the growing season cause an array of changes in potato plants, which affect its development and may lead to a drastic reduction in economic yield. Under natural conditions, drought and heat stress are two different types of abiotic stresses that occur in the field simultaneously or separately, especially in conditions without irrigation in potato production. This study aimed to examine the productivity of nine potato varieties in agro-ecological conditions of western Serbia and to find the genotypes that will give satisfactory and high yields. The field experiment was carried out with varieties: Cleopatra, Anuschka, Presto, Kuroda, Omega, Dita, Desiree, Roko and Jelly. The impact year and genotype on potato plants were tested during a four-year period (2010-2013). The final harvest was performed after the full maturity of plants in September. Our studies confirmed that potato marketable yield and total yield are greatly reduced at temperatures higher than optimal and deficit precipitation during the growing season. Here we demonstrated that the tested potato cultivar’s response to heat stress and drought in the growing season is dependent on the longer the adverse effects and the growth stage. The earlier a heat and drought occurs, the more negative the impact on the growth and productive traits of potatoes. The results obtained in this study indicate that among the tested cultivars Cleopatra was the most tolerant to heat and drought stress acting on the plants during the growing season. Our research shows that the total yield was not the only indicator of potato tolerance to abiotic stress during the growing season, but the assessment should also take into account the occurrence of secondary tuberization and physiological defects of tubers. These studies confirm that Cleopatra had the largest share (82%) of market tubers in relation to the total yield and to have the best predisposition for the highest economic yield of tubers. Our experiment showed that heat and drought tolerant potato cultivars could be used to mitigate the effects of global warming in Serbia and wider Western Balkans regions.",

AB  - U ovoj studiji, analizirana je proizvodnja pšenice u dvadesetogodišnjem periodu (2001-2020. godina) u svetu i u Srbiji. Variranja visine prinosa zrna po jedinici površine u Srbiji poređene su sa količinom padavina u vegetacionom periodu pšenice. Kvantifikovanjem uticaja klimatskih promena na proizvodnju pšenice daje nam mogućnost da se kreiraju dugoročni planovi u poljoprivrednoj proizvodnji kako bi se održao visok i stabilan prinos zrna. Prosečan prinos zrna, za ispitivani period u svetu, iznosio je 3.112 kg ha-1 dok je u Srbiji bio veći za 26% i iznosio je 3.925 kg ha-1. I pored značajnih godišnjih variranja, trend povećanja prinosa pšenice u svetu bio je značajan. U 2020. godini prosečan prinos zrna u svetu je povećan za 23,5%, a u Srbiji za 34,6% u poređenju sa 2001. godinom. Analiza proizvodnje, kod svetski najvažnijih snabdevača pšenicom, beleži značajno povećanje prinosa po jedinici površine, kao i ukupnu proizvodnju.
AB  - This study analyzed wheat production in the twenty-year period (2001-2020) in the world and in Serbia. Variations in the yield of wheat grains per unit area in Serbia were compared with the amount of precipitation in the growing season. AB  - The aim of the paper is to test the effect of climatic conditions and management practices on the yield of two quinoa cultivars (Puno and Titicaca) and to analyze the economic benefits of quinoa productivity. The experiments were carried out during the 2017 and 2019 growing seasons in rain-fed conditions on a Serbian farm. The results of the two-year long experiments proved that the growing of the quinoa cultivar Puno and particularly the cultivar Titicaca in the agro-ecological conditions of Serbia would be remarkably successful from the aspect of agronomy (with the obtained average yield of 2.5 t ha-1) as well as from the aspect of economy (with the achieved average profit of 9,411 € ha-1). The obtained profit values indicate that the quinoa production in the Republic of Serbia would be more cost-effective than the production of the field crops which are already produced, particularly in the increasingly present arid conditions.

AB  - Phaseolus vulgaris (pasulj; boranija) kao namirnica visoke nutritivne vrednosti
zauzima značajno mesto u ljudskoj ishrani. Pored svih osnovnih uslova gajenja, jedan
od ključnih zahteva za postizanje visokih prinosa je uspešna borba protiv korova.
Kao najdominantije vrste u našim agroekološkim uslovima javljaju se korovi: Amaranthus
retrofl exus, Chenopodium album, Datura stramonium, Abutilon theophrasti,
Xanthium strumarium, Cirsium arvense, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Sorghum halapense
i dr. Primena koncepta integralnog suzbijanja korova podrazumeva primenu svih
raspoloživih mera (plodored, pravilna i pravovremena obrada zemljišta, primena herbicida
i dr.). Iako u svetu postoji širi dijapazon registrovanih herbicida za suzbijanje
korova u usevu pasulja i boranije, u Srbiji su registrovani preparati na bazi aktivnih
materija: kletodim, kvizalofop–P–tefuril, imazamoks i bentazon.

one of the key requirements for achieving high yields is successful weed
control. Weeds such as Amaranthus retrofl exus, Chenopodium album, Datura stramonium,
Abutilon theophrasti, Xanthium strumarium, Cirsium arvense, Ambrosia
artemisiifolia, Sorghum halepense and others appear as the most dominant species
in our agroecological conditions. The application of the concept of integrated weed
control implies the application of all available measures (crop rotation, proper and
timely tillage, application of herbicides, etc.). Although there is a wider range of
registered herbicides for weed control in beans and green beans in the world, preparations
based on active substances: clethodim, quizalofop-P-tefuril, imazamox and
bentazone have been registered in Serbia.

AB  - Human noroviruses (HuNoV) are the dominant cause of viral gastroenteritis in all age groups worldwide. In this study, we investigated the effects of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) on the reduction of HuNoV in different food models, on surfaces of fresh produce (green onion and cherry tomato), in low-fat milk, and simulated gastrointestinal fluids. The antiviral efficacy of PPE against HuNoV was evaluated by quantifying the number of residual virus genomes using a quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) assay. Pomegranate peel, considered as a waste product of industrial processing, is known for beneficial health effects and broad antimicrobial activity due to the high content of phenolic compounds and tannins. PPE showed significant antiviral properties against HuNoV both in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and simulated gastric fluid. The reduction of HuNoV by pomegranate juice was lower than with PPE, which could be attributed to the lower content of antimicrobial compounds. A pretreatment of cherry tomato and green onion surfaces with PPE significantly reduced the amount of HuNoV particles that adhered to those surfaces during subsequent virus suspension treatment. A detrimental effect of PPE on HuNoV structure was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Our results indicate that PPE is a natural antiviral agent effective against food-borne noroviruses.

AB  - Циљ овог рада је био да се испитају морфолошке карактеристике
и принос биљака две сорте квиноје (Puno и Titicaca) у
агроеколошким условима Србије при различитим густинама сетве.
Експеримент je изведен током вегетационе сезоне 2019. године на
огледном пољу у близини Суботице на подручју између севернe
географскe ширинe од 46° 7' и источне географске дужине од 19° 4'.
Величина главне парцеле била је 12 m2, а експеримент је постављен
у систему сплит-сплит плот-а, са четири понављања. Растојање
између редова је било 50 cm, а између биљака у реду 2 cm, 5 cm и 10
cm. Mерени су следећи параметри: висина биљака, број бочних
грана, биомаса и принос. Наши резултати су показали да су густина
сетве и генотип имали утицаја на испитиване параметре. Постигнут
принос у поређењу са резултатима других европских земаља је био
задовољавајући тако да би производња квиноје могла бити
исплатива у постојећим агроеколошким условима.
AB  - The aim of this study was to investigate the morphological
characteristics and yield of plants of two varieties of quinoa (Puno and
Titicaca) in agroecological conditions of Serbia at different sowing
densities. The experiment was performed during the vegetation season in
2019 on an experimental field near Subotica in the area between the
northern latitude of 46° 7' and the eastern longitude of 19° 4'. The size of
the main plot was 12 m2, and the experiment was set up in a split-split
plot system, with four replications. The distance between the rows was 50
cm, and between the plants in a row 2 cm, 5 cm and 10 cm. The
following parameters were measured: plant height, number of side
branches, biomass and yield. Our results showed that sowing density and
genotype had an influence on the investigation parameters. The achieved
yield compared to the results of other European countries was satisfactory
so that quinoa production could be profitable in the existing
agroecological conditions.
