AB - This study aimed to assess the ecological status/potential of the Čemernica and Dičina rivers (Zapadna Morava basin) based on epilithic diatoms and supporting physico-chemical parameters, as well as to explore indicative properties of the detected macroalgae. The sampling and analysis of benthic algae and measurement of physico-chemical parameters were carried out in August 2023. The ecological status/potential of the Čemernica River was poor to bad at all investigated sites (ČR1, ČR2, ČR3) based on diatom indices and physico-chemical parameters. Low diatom indices values and the presence of the macroalgae Stigeoclonium tenue indicated organic pollution. In the Dičina River, good ecological status was assessed at all sites (DR1-DR4) based on the diatom indices, while poor ecological status has been assessed at almost all sites (DR1, DR2, DR3) based on the physico-chemical parameters, except at DR4, where the ecological status was good. The high coverage of Cladophora glomerata in both rivers indicated nutrient loading, which aligned with the results of the physico-chemical parameters.

AB - The Lepenica River is the most important watercourse in the city of Kragujevac. Regardless of its importance, this river and its tributaries are extremely poorly investigated from a biological aspect. Only a few investigations were conducted from the end of the 20th century. After that, only physicochemical and microbiological parameters were monitored by scientists and Public Institutions. Our research was performed in 2021 at five localities at the Lepenica River and included an analysis of phytobenthos, macroinvertebrate, and fish communities, with the aim to assess ecological status/potential according to National Regulative. Our results indicate that the ecological status of this river was good (II class) only at one locality before the industrial and urbanized zone of the city of Kragujevac. From the entrance into the city of Kragujevac, the Lepenica River becomes highly polluted by multiple pollutants and belongs to the V class of ecological potential.

različitom obradom i to: neđubreno, đubreno oranje i đubreno
konzervacijska obrada. Utvrđeno je prisustvo 3 endogeične vrste, iz dva
roda i to: Allolobophora i Aporrectodea. Ukupan broj jedinki je bio najveći
u đubrenom dvopolju sa konzervacijskom obradom. Broj juvenilnih

AB - Nutrition is one of the main processes in living beings because it provides
energy. Amphibians are an essential link in food chains, but they have not
been sufficiently studied. It is believed that most anuran larvae and tadpoles
are omnivorous, but the trophic status of many tadpoles has not been precisely
determined. Microplastics (MPs) are one of the major threats to aquatic
ecosystems and can be ingested by various groups of aquatic organisms,
such as plankton, shellfish, fish, and amphibians, but current knowledge of
MPs occurrence in these aquatic organisms is still scarce. In this research,
the intestinal contents of tadpoles of four anuran species were analyzed to
assess nutrition and the presence of microplastics. The results show that
the largest percentage of tadpoles’ diet consists of diatoms from the genera
Achnanthidium and Navicula, and detritus. The remains of some invertebrates
were also present in the material. Microplastic analysis proved the presence of
MPs in all investigated samples. The data obtained in this research represent
the first concrete results due to which it is necessary to continue extensive
research at several levels.
Analize mikroplastike dokazale

AB - Due to multiple modern stressors, there are rapid changes in inland water habitats and
irreversible biodiversity loss. Hence, in order to detect parts of rivers or basins with
originally preserved habitat and biodiversity, detailed hydrobiological research of
inland waters (simultaneous research of basic abiotic parameters and hydrobiocenosis)
are necessary. The aim is to detect habitats' biological and ecological values, which are
important for the permanent preservation of genetic and species diversity and the
stability and functionality of the entire ecosystem or catchment area. In terms of
ecology and conservation, these habitats have the same importance for inland waters
and catchment areas as the hot-spot areas for preserving global biodiversity. The
importance of these areas in this work is presented on the example of the Veliki Rzav
River (Serbia). In order to support the program of declaring the river as a protected
area, the research was conducted in 2021. In the Veliki Rzav River, many biological
values such as preserved and high biodiversity of algae, macroinvertebrates, and fish
were detected. For the first time in Serbia, new species of algae were detected, along
with the significant presence of sensitive taxa in the macroinvertebrate community and
a stable brown trout population with the detection of the new haplotype.

AB - The first observation of the red alga Bangia atropurpurea (Bangiales, Rhodophyta)
in Serbia was in 1991 in the Trgoviški Timok River (Eastern Serbia). From 1991
to 2017, the species was sporadically observed at four more locations in three hillmountain
rivers in Southwestern (the Gvozdačka River and the Raška River) and
Eastern (the Nišava River - two localities) Serbia. More intensive research on this
alga was carried out from 2017 to 2020, and a total of 220 localities in 132 hillmountain
watercourses were studied. Bangia atropurpurea was recorded at six
locations in Southwestern and Eastern Serbia. Five of these locations represent
new B. atropurpurea localities in Serbia (the Brusnička River, the Golijska
Moravica River, the Panjica River, the Resava River, and the second locality in
the Trgoviški Timok River), while one of them is already known from previous
studies (the Raška River). The species was found in running, moderately hard
and very hard, well-oxygenated, slightly alkaline waters, mainly low in inorganic
nutrients, and in highly variable values of temperature and conductivity. Despite
the long period since its first observation in Serbian rivers, the species is still
known in a small number of localities. The small number of localities, low relative
abundance, and various anthropogenic influences affecting its habitats have led
the species to be recognized as endangered and strictly protected in Serbia. The
intensive development of small hydropower plants which have emerged in recent
years may threaten B. atropurpurea habitats.

AB - The first data on the Lemanea genus in Serbia come
from the late 20th century. Only one species, L. fluviatilis,
was reported from 10 localities in Serbian riverine
ecosystems between 1991 and 2017. Extensive research on
this genus was performed in April–November 2017–2019,
surveying 150 localities in 97 upland and mountain rivers.
During this study period, the Lemanea genus was recorded
at 14 localities in 12 rivers, while it disappeared from five
previously reported localities. A total of four taxa were
identified: Lemanea fucina, L. rigida, Lemanea sp. and
L. fluviatilis. Lemanea fucina and L. rigida were recorded in
Serbia for the first time. L. fluviatilis was the most common
taxon. Our research confirmed that Lemanea species
prefer similar specific environmental conditions. These
species were found in temperate, soft or moderately hard,
well-oxygenated and weakly alkaline waters, with low,
moderate or high conductivity, and in waters with low
content of inorganic nutrients. Due to their sensitivity to
changes in environmental conditions, Lemanea species
are exposed to negative anthropogenic impact leading to
the degradation of their habitats. Intensive construction of
small hydropower plants has threatened most habitats of
the Rhodophyta species in the last few years.

present an algal diversity, ecological status assessment, and negative anthropogenic impacts
threatening this river. For ecological status assessment purposes, the diatom indices
phytobenthos and physico-chemical parameters of water were used. The typology and the
problem of reliable assessing of the ecological status were also discussed on the example

AB - Background: Modern methods of stored wheat grain protection from insect pests strive towards optimizing the
use of different techniques and methods within integrated pest management (IPM) programs. One of the methods
of integral grain protection is the application of natural originating insecticides.
Main body: The potential of the natural origin synthetic insecticide abamectin (a product of soil bacteria,
Streptomyces avermitilis fermentation) on the grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica F. (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae), in
stored wheat, barley, ray, oats, and triticale was evaluated. The evaluation was conducted in 3 rates. The effects of
its application on the infestation of R. dominica on certain physical and chemical traits of cereal grains were
examined. The efficacy of abamectin after 7 days of exposure, in all applied dosages, was low (< 56.5% in wheat
and < 30.5% in other grains). Abamectin efficacy was significantly increased after 14 days of exposure. R. dominica
mortality was 99.0 and 100% after 21-day exposure at the abamectin rates of 0.5 and 1.0 mg kg−1, respectively. Ten
weeks after grain treatment, the 3 examined rates prevented the emergence of progeny. The amount of the
damaged grains and dockage, as a nus-product of feeding of R. dominica larvae and imago, compared to the
untreated, infested sample was significantly smaller, which represents a positive aspect of abamectin application.
The application did not change significantly the moisture, protein, and ash contents, in comparison to the control.
Conclusion: Positive aspects of the abamectin application on different grain species (wheat, barley, rye, oats, and
triticale) caused the highest rates of R. dominica mortality after 21 days of exposure where a total prevention of
progeny emergence and absence of changes on technological grain properties occurred.
