Abstract
In this experiment we employed different types of fertilization on some carrot varieties. The cultivars which we used were following: Nantes SP-80, Amsterdam early, Long blunt heartless - Laros, Flaker and Braunschweis. In the course of two years, the carrot cultivars mentioned above were fertilized in three ways: 1) using manure 50 t/ha, 2) NPK (15:15:15) 670 kg/ha, and 3) calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) 670 kg/ha. We also used a non-fertilized control group. The elementary soil cultivation was done in autumn and the fertilizers were added and broadcast three days before sowing (April 17, 1990 and April 11, 1991). The experiment was carried out using the random block system in three replications on the experimental plots of the Center for Vegetable Crops. The area of the experimental plot was 6 m2 with five rows. Planting density was 40 × 4 cm for a total of 625.000 plants/ha. The obtained results were analyzed according to the method of 3-factor-experiment and they suggested significa...nt differences depending upon the manner of fertilization. For both years the average yield achieved by fertilization with manure was 48.35 t/ha; for CAN it was 41.53 t/ha; for NPK - 41.52 t/ha; and for the control group it was 35.26 t/ha carrots. There were significant differences among the cultivars (ranging from an average 27.06 t/ha in Amsterdam early to 57.52 t/ha in Flaker). The yield values achieved in the two years were different. Significant differences were also evident in the cultivar - year correlation.
