Protein Content and Amino Acid Composition in Seed of Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

AB  - The aim of this study was determination of protein content and amino acid composition in seeds of bread wheat, with particular focus of evaluation essential amino acids (EAAs). For analysis used flour samples of grained seed of 10 wheat variety, which selected in different breeding center (in Novi Sad and Kragujevac, Serbia). Kjeldahl method was used for determination of nitrogen (N) contents which value multiplied with coefficient 5.7 for computing protein content (protein contents = 5.7 x % N contents). Amino acids analyses of wheat samples were performed by ion exchange chromatography, followed by the ninhydrin colour reaction and photometric detection at 570 nm and 440 nm (for proline). The results showed that the mean protein content for wheat varied from the lowest value 10.24% in Ljubičevka to the highest 14.21% in Fortuna variety. The mean contents (g 100 g-l protein) of nonessential amino acids (NEAAs) were aspartic acid 5.42%, serine 4.23%, glutamic acid 18.51%, proline 12.18%, glycine 4.17%, alanine 3.64%, tyrosine 2.52%, arginine 5.02%, while mean contents of essential amino acids (EAAs) were threonine 2.86%, valine 4.52%, methionine 1.28%, isoleucine 3.87%, leucine 5.87%, phenylalanine 4.62%, histidine 2.46%, lysine 2.91%. The wheat variety contained relatively high concentration of the most deficient EAAs. The variety Ljubičevka contained relatively high concentration of the most deficient EAAs (threonine, valine, leucine, lysine,). The highest value (29.31 g 100 g-l protein) of total essential amino acids (TEAA), 59.79 g 100 g-l protein of total nonessential amino acids (TNEAA) as well as the highest value (90.35 g 100 g-l protein) of total amino acids (TAA). Obtained results provide variability of wheat variety on the base of amino acid contents and indicate reliable variety for selecting desirable parents in breeding program for improving nutrient quality.
AB  - Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio određivanje sadržaja proteina i sastava aminokiselina u semenu hlebne pšenice, sa posebnim fokusom na procenu esencijalnih aminokiselina (EAA). Za analizu su korišćeni uzorci brašna mlevenog semena 10 sorti pšenice, koje su selekcionisane u različitim oplemenjivačkim centrima (u Novom Sadu i Kragujevcu, Srbija). Za odredjivanje sadržaja proteinakorišćen je Kjeldahlov metod za određivanje sadržaja azota (N) čija je vrednost pomnožena sa koeficijentom 5,7 (sadržaj proteina = 5,7 k % N sadržaj). Za analizu aminokiselina uzoraka pšenice korišćena je jonoizmenjivačka hromatografija, reakcija bojenja ninhidrinom i fotometrijska detekcija na 570 nm i 440 nm (za prolin). Rezultati su pokazali da je srednji sadržaj proteina pšenice varirao od najmanje vrednosti 10,24% kod Ljubičevke do najveće 14,21% kod sorte Fortuna. Srednja vrednost sadržaja (g 100 g-1 proteina) neesencijalnih aminokiselina (NEAA) je nađena za asparaginsku kiselinu 5,42%, serin 4,23%, glutaminsku kiselinu 18,51%, prolin 12,18%, glicin 4,17%, alanin 3,64%, tirozin 2,52%, dok je srednja vrednost sadržaja esencijalnih aminokiselina (EAA) bila za treonin 2,86%, valin 4,52%, metionin 1,28%, izoleucin 3,87%, leucin 5,87%, fenilalanin 4,62%, histidin 2,46% i lizin 1,2%. Sorta pšenice je sadržala relativno visoku koncentraciju najdeficitarnijih EAA. Kod sorte Ljubičevka je nadjena relativno visoka koncentracija najdeficitarnijih EAA (treonin, valin, leucin, lizin,). Najveći sadržaj (29,31 g 100 g-1 proteina), ukupnih esencijalnih amino kiselina (TEAA), i najveći sadržaj (59,79 g 100 g-1 proteina) ukupnih neesencijalnih amino kiselina (TNEAA) kao i najveća vrednost (90,35 g 100 g-1 proteina) ukupnih aminokiselina ( TAA). Dobijeni rezultati predstavljaju varijabilnost sorti pšenice na osnovu sadržaja aminokiselina i ukazuju na pouzdanu sortu za odabir poželjnih roditelja u oplemenjivačkom programu za poboljšanje kvaliteta hranljivih materija.

AB  - Broj klasova po jedinice površine ima značajan uticaj na formiranje
prinosa kroz osobine, dužinu klasa, broj klasaka u klasu, broj semena u klasu, masu klasa, masu semena u klasu i masu 1000 semena. Cilj rada je izučavanje variranja broja klasova pšenice u različitim rokovima i
gustinama setve. U istraživanja su uključene dve sorte pšenice (Prima i Simonida), u ogledu sa dva roka i tri gustine setve u dve vegetacione
sezone. Rezultati su pokazali značajne razlike u broju klasova m-2, između
sorti, prema gustini setve, po rokovima setve i između dve vegetacione
sezone. U obe vegetacione sezone, najmanji broj klasova m-2 je nađen pri gustini setve 350 semena m-2 kod obe sorte i to 504,50 i 350,33 kod Prime
i 520,50 i 371,83 kod Simonide, dok je najveći broj klasova m-2 utvrđen
pri najvećoj gustini setve (750 semena) i to 558,32 i 372,50 kod sorte Prima i 590,17 u prvoj i 622,17 klasova kod sorte Simonida u drugoj godini. Broj
klasova m-2 je varirao zavisno od genotipa, gustine setve, vremena setve i
uslova u vegetacionoj sezoni.
AB  - The number of spikes per unit area has a significant influence on yield
formation, through characteristics spike length, number of spikelets spike-
1, number of seeds spike-1, mass of spikes, mass of seeds spike-1, weight of
1000 seeds. The aim of the work is to study the variation of number of
wheat spikes m-2 in different sowing date and densities. Two varieties of
wheat Prima and Simonida were included for study number of spikes m-2
in an experiment with two dates and three sowing densities in two growing
seasons. The results showed significant differences for number of spikes
m-2 between two varieties of wheat, sowing dates, sowing densities, and between between two vegetation seasons of research. In both growing
seasons, the lowest number of spikes m-2 was found at the sowing density
of 350 seeds m-2 in both varieties, namely 504.50 and 350.33 in Prime and
520.50 and 371.83 in Simonida variety, while the highest number of spikes m-2 was found at the highest sowing density (750 seeds), namely 558.32

Polimorfizam alela glijadina i glutena kod pšenice (Triticum aestivum L.)

AB  - Glijadini i glutenini se deponuju u endospermu semena i imaju najveći udeo u
sadržaju proteina semena. Cilj ovog rada je identifikacija polimorfizama genskih
alela koji kodiraju glijadine i glutenine. U istraživanje je uključeno 10 sorti pšenice.
Od svakog genotipa je korišćeno 30 semena za ekstrakciju glijadina sa 70%
etanolom, a glutenina sa 10% β-merkaptoetanolom. Glijadini su razdvojeni elektroforezom
u rastvoru pufera (pH=3,1) na 8,33% poliakrilamidnom gelu, dok su
glutenini razdvajani pomoću SDS-PAGE (pH-8,6) na 11,8% gelu. Elektroforegrami
su korišćeni za određivanje alela Gli-1 i Gli-2, kao i alela Glu-1. Identifikovano je
pet alela (a, b, c, f, m) na Gli-A1, četiri alela (b, g, e, l) na Gli-B1, četiri alela (a,
b, g, k) na Gli-D1, pet alela (b, e, g, m, n) na Gli-A2, šest alela (b, c, d, g, k, o) na
Gli-B2 i tri alela (a, b , e, h, m) na Gli-D2 lokusu. Za podjedinice glutenina visoke
molekularne mase (HMVGS) je identifikovano tri alela (a, b, c) na Glu-A1, sedam
alela (a, b, c, d, f, h, i) na Glu-B1 i tri alela (a, c, d) na Glu-D1. Identifikovani aleli
na svakom Gli-1, Gli-2 i Glu-1 lokusu ukazuju na visok polimorfizam proteina
glutena i genetičku divergentnost analiziranih genotipova pšenice.
AB  - Gliadin and glutenins are deposited in endosperm of seed and they have the
highest share in the protein content of seeds. The aim of this study is identification
of gene allele polymorphisms encoding gliadin and glutenins. Ten varieties of
wheat were included in this study and 30 seeds from each genotype were used for
the extraction of gliadin by 70% ethanole, and glutenins by 10% β-mercaptoethanol.
The gliadins were separated by acid PAGE electrophoresis (pH=3.1) on 8.33%
polyacrylamide gel, while glutenins were separated by SDS-PAGE (pH-8.6) on
11.8% gel. Electrophoregrams were used for determining Gli-1 and Gli-2 alleles
as well for Glu-1 allele. The five alleles (a, b, c, f, m) at the Gli-A1, four alleles (b,
g, e, l) at the Gli-B1, four alleles (a, b, g, k) at the Gli-D1, five alleles (b, e, g, m, n)
at the Gli-A2, six alleles (b, c, d, g, k, o) at the Gli-B2 and five alleles (a, b, e, h, m)
at the Gli-D2 locus were identified. For high molecular weight glutenin subunists
(HMWGS) the three alleles (a, b, c) at the Glu-A1, seven alleles (a,b, c, d, f, h, i)
at the Glu-B1 and three alleles (a c, d) at the Glu-D1 were identified. Identified
alleles at each Gli-1, Gli-2 and Glu-1 loci indicate high polymorphisms of gluten
proteins and genetic divergences of analyzed wheat genotypes.

abstract = "Glijadini i glutenini se deponuju u endospermu semena i imaju najveći udeo u
sadržaju proteina semena. Cilj ovog rada je identifikacija polimorfizama genskih
alela koji kodiraju glijadine i glutenine. U istraživanje je uključeno 10 sorti pšenice.
Od svakog genotipa je korišćeno 30 semena za ekstrakciju glijadina sa 70%
etanolom, a glutenina sa 10% β-merkaptoetanolom. Glijadini su razdvojeni elektroforezom
u rastvoru pufera (pH=3,1) na 8,33% poliakrilamidnom gelu, dok su
glutenini razdvajani pomoću SDS-PAGE (pH-8,6) na 11,8% gelu. Elektroforegrami
su korišćeni za određivanje alela Gli-1 i Gli-2, kao i alela Glu-1. Identifikovano je
pet alela (a, b, c, f, m) na Gli-A1, četiri alela (b, g, e, l) na Gli-B1, četiri alela (a,
b, g, k) na Gli-D1, pet alela (b, e, g, m, n) na Gli-A2, šest alela (b, c, d, g, k, o) na
Gli-B2 i tri alela (a, b , e, h, m) na Gli-D2 lokusu. Za podjedinice glutenina visoke
molekularne mase (HMVGS) je identifikovano tri alela (a, b, c) na Glu-A1, sedam
alela (a, b, c, d, f, h, i) na Glu-B1 i tri alela (a, c, d) na Glu-D1. Identifikovani aleli
na svakom Gli-1, Gli-2 i Glu-1 lokusu ukazuju na visok polimorfizam proteina
glutena i genetičku divergentnost analiziranih genotipova pšenice., Gliadin and glutenins are deposited in endosperm of seed and they have the
highest share in the protein content of seeds. The aim of this study is identification
of gene allele polymorphisms encoding gliadin and glutenins. Ten varieties of
wheat were included in this study and 30 seeds from each genotype were used for
the extraction of gliadin by 70% ethanole, and glutenins by 10% β-mercaptoethanol.
The gliadins were separated by acid PAGE electrophoresis (pH=3.1) on 8.33%
polyacrylamide gel, while glutenins were separated by SDS-PAGE (pH-8.6) on
11.8% gel. Electrophoregrams were used for determining Gli-1 and Gli-2 alleles
as well for Glu-1 allele. The five alleles (a, b, c, f, m) at the Gli-A1, four alleles (b,
g, e, l) at the Gli-B1, four alleles (a, b, g, k) at the Gli-D1, five alleles (b, e, g, m, n)
at the Gli-A2, six alleles (b, c, d, g, k, o) at the Gli-B2 and five alleles (a, b, e, h, m)
at the Gli-D2 locus were identified. For high molecular weight glutenin subunists
(HMWGS) the three alleles (a, b, c) at the Glu-A1, seven alleles (a,b, c, d, f, h, i)
at the Glu-B1 and three alleles (a c, d) at the Glu-D1 were identified. Identified
alleles at each Gli-1, Gli-2 and Glu-1 loci indicate high polymorphisms of gluten
proteins and genetic divergences of analyzed wheat genotypes.",

AB  - The cultivation wheat in past century influenced that varieties have acquired certain specific forms of adaptation and changed their hereditary basis. Farmers, have their priorities in selecting a variety for traits yield, lodging resistance, and protein content. Wheat breeders pay more attention to balance those traits with others, like nutritional quality, disease resistance into a combination going to be attractive to a grower. Aim of this study is estimation of share of old wheat varieties in improving yield, quality and adaptation of developed modern bread wheat varieties. İn this investigation analyzed diversity and fluctuation wheat varieties which grown in Serbia from 19 to 21 century. İn the end of 19th century farmers grown indigeneous population, introduced foreign genotypes, local populations, old varieties approved after period of Green Revolution and modern wheat varieties. Also in study presented work on collection old wheat genotypes and local population, and distribution genotypes on localities were collected as well İnstitution where collected genotypes deposited. The differences between old and modern wheat varieties were established for yield, protein content, quality, resistance to diseases, resistance and susceptibility to low temperature, lodging etc. On the base of analysis can be concluded that old varieties and local populations are valuable resources of desirable genes for further wheat breeding for improving yield, quality and adaptability of further varieties which will be create.

AB  - This paper presents research of production possibilities of miscanthus (Mischantus × giganteus Greef et Deu) in agroecological conditions of Serbia. For that purpose, an experiment was set up in Srem on the site of Podunavlje village of Surduk. The soil on which the plantation was established in 2012 belongs to the type of carbonate chernozem on a loess plateau, at an altitude of 150 m. Stalk height in the panicle stage and yield of dry miscanthus stalks during five years, from 2015 to 2019, as well as the content of cellulose in dry stalks depending on agroecological conditions and variants of fertilization without top dressing and with spring top dressing of 30 kg ha1 of nitrogen fertilizer, were analysed. The highest recorded yield of dry stalks was in 2019 (34.525 kg ha1), and the lowest recorded yield was in the dry year of 2017 (17.980 kg ha1), both in the variant with top-dressing.

AB  - U poslednjih dvadeset godina u Institutu PKB Agroekonomik pored oplemenjivanja pšenice, vrlo intezivno se radi i na oplemenjivanju drugih pravih ili hlebnih žita. Visokoprinosna, kasna sorta ozime raži PKB Zmaj dobijena je po pedigre metodi prostim ukrštanjem genetički različitih roditelja iz kolekcije Instituta PKB Agroekonomik: sorte Rtanj i linije PKB-R-105. Kod ove sorte ozime raži kombinovani su geni odgovorni za vrlo visok potencijal rodnosti, otpornost prema poleganju, niskim temperaturama i važnijim bolestima. Sorta ozime raži PKB Zmaj registrovana je od strane Ministarstva poljoprivrede, šumarstva i vodoprivrede Republike Srbije 2018. godine. Sorta PKB Zmaj ima visok genetski potencijal za rodnost i visoku adaptaciju na različite klimatsko-zemljišne uslove, pri optimalnoj agrotehnici.
AB  - For the last twenty years, in addition to breeding wheat, PKB Agroekonomik Institute has been working very intensively on breeding other real or bread grains. High-yielding, late winter rye variety PKB Zmaj has been obtained by the pedigree method by a simple crossing of genetically different parents from the collection of PKB Agroekonomik Institute: variety Rtanj and line PKB-R-105. This variety of winter rye combines genes responsible for very high yield potential, resistance to lodging, low temperatures and more significant diseases in the rye. Winter rye variety PKB Zmaj was registered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia in 2018. With the use of optimal agricultural techniques, the variety PKB Zmaj has a high genetic potential for fertility and high adaptation to different climatic and soil conditions.

Winter rye variety PKB Zmaj was registered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia in 2018. With the use of optimal agricultural techniques, the variety PKB Zmaj has a high genetic potential for fertility and high adaptation to different climatic and soil conditions.",

AB  - Pšenica je tijekom cijele ljudske civilizacije bila bazni i vitalni sastojak
svakodnevne ishrane ljudi i domaćih životinja. U Republici Srbiji posljednjih
nekoliko godina izražena je traženost sorti pšenice, koje pored visokog i
stabilnog prinosa imaju i dobre parametre kvalitete brašna. U provedenim
istraživanjima u 2019/2020. godini sorta s najstabilnijim prinosom i dobrom
kvalitetom zrna pokazala se sorta Nogal. Ova sorta ima visok sadržaj kvalitetnih
proteina, a analogno tome je i visok sadržaj glutena, ali i kvaliteta, što su
potvrdila reološka mjerenja. Ostvareni visoki prinosi zrna ispitivanih sorata
pšenice jesu rezultat interakcije genetičkog potencijala ispitivanih sorata
pšenice i primjene dobre agrotehnike u uvjetima kada raspored padalina u
tijeku vegetacijske sezone, od momenta sjetve, pa do žetve nije pogodovao
proizvodnji pšenice. Istraživanja su pokazala da se sorte Talas, Pobeda i Nogal
mogu svrstati u kvalitetnu grupu A2, odnosno to su sorte dobre kvalitete brašna
i hljeba i kao takve spadaju u grupu poboljšivača. Sorte Merkur, Imperija,
Ratarica i Vizantija svrstane su u kvalitetnu grupu B1 tj. one su dobre hljebne
sorte. Sorta NS 40 S svrstana je u kvalitetnu grupu B2.
AB  - Throughout human civilization, wheat has been the basic and vital
ingredient of daily nutrition for both humans and animals. In the last few years,
in the Republic of Serbia, there has been a pronounced demand for wheat
varieties that, in addition to high and stable yields also have good flour quality
parameters. Implemented investigations in 2019/2020 showed that the variety
with the most stable yield and good grain quality was the Nogal variety. This variety has a high quality proteins content, and as an analogue also a high gluten
content, but also quality confirmed by rheological measurements. Realized high
grain yields of investigated wheat varieties result from the interaction between
the genetic potential of investigated wheat varieties and applied good
agrotechnical procedures under conditions when the distribution of precipitation
during the vegetation season, from the moment of sowing, to the harvest, was
not favorable for wheat production. Investigations have shown that varieties

AB  - Оплемењивање биљака има опште и специфичне изазове у креирању пожељних генотипова у различитим екоклиматским условима у циљу решавања бројних ограничења: генетички потенцијал, продуктивност, климатске промене, природни ресурси, раст људске популације и задовољење потреба за исхраном, очување животне средине од загађењаи др. Постојеће климатске промене у регионима широм света (суша, високе температуре, топлота) нарушавају стабилност екосистема и представљају значајан ограничавајући фактор за остваривање високих приноса усева у пољопривредној производњи, за обезбеђење довољне количине хране за људску популацију и економску стабилност. Климатске промене које неповољно утичу на продуктивност биљака у пољопривредној производњи су повезане са постојањем глади милиона људи у свету. Оплемењивањем биљака су створени генотипови са високим потенцијалом за принос, квалитет и отпорношћу на биотичке и абиотичке факторе стреса. Адаптације на климатске промене доприносе смањењу негативног ефекта климатских промена на животни циклус биљака, отпорност на болести и штеточине, сушу, топлотни шок, мраз, односно на производњу хране са пожељним вредностима нутритивних и технолошких особина.
AB  - Plant breeding has general and specific challenges in creating desirable genotypes in different ecoclimatic conditions in order to address numerous constraints such as genetic potential, productivity, climate change, natural resources, human population growth and meeting nutritional needsas well as, preserving the environment from pollution. Existing climate change in regions around the world (drought, high temperatures, heat) disrupts ecosystem stability and is a significant limiting factor for achieving high crop yields in agricultural production, and for providing sufficient food for the human population and economic stability.Climate change that adversely affects the productivity of plants in agricultural production is associated with the existence of hunger of millions of people in the world. Plant breeding has created genotypes with high potential for yield, quality and resistance to biotic and abiotic stress factors. Adaptations to climate change contribute to reducing the negative effect of climate change on the life cycle of plants, on resistance to diseases and pests, drought, heat shock, frost, and on the production of food with desirable values of nutritional and technological properties.

AB  - The paper analyzes the yield and average of oil content of rapeseed in
several years of production, in experiments which set up at the
Experimental Field of the Faculty of Biofarming in Bačka Topola. The hybrid with the highest grain yield proved to be the Factor hybrid (4570
kg ha-1), which also had the highest average yield in all four years of
testing (4042 kg ha-1).
The highest oil content in the experiment was present in the Artoga
hybrid (42.9%), which also had the highest average oil content in all four
years of testing (41.59%), while the Umberto hybrid had the lowest oil
content (39.17%).

AB  - Uticaj godine na prinos zrna i neke osobine koje su bitne za kvalitetan prinos zrna pšenice
zavise od agroekoloških uslova reona gajenja i primenjenih agrotehničkih mera. Kao materijal
istraživanja korišćeno je sedam sorti iz više selekcionih kuća, a nalaze se u širokoj proizvodnji.
Ogledi su postavljeni na šest lokaliteta: Kikinda, Novi Sad, Pančevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Kruševac
i Požarevac, u dve proizvodne godine, po blok sistemu sa četiri ponavljanja. Najveći ukupan
prinos zrna pšenice od 8.824 kg ha-1ostvaren je kod sorte NS 40S, zatim 8.817 kg ha-1 kod sorte NS
Renesansa, odnosno 8.343 kg ha-1 kod sorte PKB Imperija, dok je najniži prinos zrna pšenice od

AB  - Variability of length of spike and number of spikelets spike-1 have share in forming of grain
yield of wheat. The aim of this study was estimation of variability of length of spike and
number of spikelets spike-1 in 20 genetically divergent wheat cultivars grown in different
environmental conditions. The experiment was set up as a randomised block design in three
replications. Obtained results indicated differences in average values of length of spike and
number of spikelets spike-1 among tested cultivars in both years of experiment. In average for
all cultivars length of spike was higher in the second year than in first year of experiment.
Also, average value of number of spikelets spike-1 was higher in second year at the analysed
wheat cultivars. The wheat cultivar Dejana expressed the longest spike (12.50cm) in the
second experimental year while the wheat cultivar Sumadinka had the shortest spike (8.91cm)
in the first year. On the base of results were established variability of both analysed spike
traits in wheat cultivars. Also, this results showed significant differences among wheat
cultivars according to length of spike and number of spikelets spike-1, which are determined
by genetic and environmental factors.

AB  - Visokoprinosna, rana sorta ozime pšenice PKB Vizantija dobijena je
metodom proste hibridizacije genetički različitih roditelja: sorte Chopin i sorte
PKB Arena. Kod ove sorte uspešno su kombinovani geni odgovorni za vrlo visok
potencijal rodnosti, solidan tehnološki kvalitet, otpornost prema poleganju, niskim
temperaturama i vaţnijim bolestima kod pšenice. Sorta PKB Vizantija
registrovana je od strane Ministarstva poljoprivrede, šumarstva i vodoprivrede
Republike Srbije 2018. godine. Poseduje vrlo visoku biološku plastičnost i
adaptaciju na različite klimatsko-zemljišne uslove i stabilnost prinosa, pri
optimalnim nivoima agrotehnike. Na osnovu pokazatelja tehnološkog kvaliteta,
svrstana je u II kvalitetnu klasu, B1 farinografsku kvalitetnu podgrupu i II
tehnološku grupu.
AB  - The high yielding, late winter wheat variety PKB Vizantija was
created using the method of hybridization of genetically divergent parents: the
variety Chopin and the variety PKB Arena. This variety successfully combines
genes responsible for high yield potential, good technological quality, and
resistance to lodging, low temperatures and more significant diseases of wheat. It
has been registered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water
Management of the Republic of Serbia in 2018. It has broad adaptability, as well as
yield stability, which enables it to be grown under various climatic-soil conditions
with an optimum level of agrotechnics. Based on indicators of technological
quality, it was placed in Quality Class II, Farinography Quality Subgroup B1, and
Technology Group II.

Allelic composition of HMW-glutenin protein and their relationship with quality of wheat

AB  - High molecular weight glutenin subunits (HMW-GS) proteins deposited in
endosperm of wheat seed which have significant impact on bread quality. The
HMW-GS encoded by genes located at the long arm of chromosomes 1A, 1B, 1D.
The aim of this work was study allele polymorphysms at Glu-A1, Glu-B1 and GluD1 locus and loaf volume, grain protein content, sedimentation volume of eight
wheat genotypes (G-3130, G-35183, G-3501, G3512, G-3574, G-3027, G-3075, G3097) harvested in two years with various weather condition. For each genotypes,
flour used for extraction of glutenin which separated by method of electrophoresis
on SDS gel (11.8%). Electrophoregrams used for determining Glu-1 alleles.
Technological quality parameters analyzed by standard laboratory methods. The
three alleles alleles (a, b, c) at the Glu-A1, three alleles (b, c, d) at the Glu-B1 and 2
alleles (a, d) at the Glu-D1 were identified. The highest protein sedimentation
volume had wheat genotype G-3075 in the both years (54.0ml; 58.0ml) while the
lowest sedimentation volume had G-3512 (34.0ml; 36.0ml). Grain protein content
(GPC) was the highest in G-3075 in both years (14.20%; 15.40%) while the lowest
GPC had G-3097 (11.60%) in first and G-3512 (12.60%) in the second year. Loaf
volume was the highest in G-3075 in both year (520ml; 540ml) while the lowest
was in G-3512 (400ml) in both years of experiment. The estimated quality traits
varied depending on genotype and year. The better quality, in average, had the
wheat genotypes which carried Glu-D1d allele.

AB  - The investigation of three wheat varieties (PKB Talas, BG Merkur and PKB Lepoklasa) carried out at experimental field and laboratory of Institute PKB Agroekonomik, during two years 2009 and 2010. Correlations between morphological and production traits of plants number of shoots, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, 1000 grain weight and grain weight per spike, were studied. Correlations were observed separately for three Institute PKB Agroekonomik varieties. The manner of preparing data for calculating correlations influences obtained correlation values, and these values can differ substantially. Correlations calculated based on aggregated data are higher than those based on all data. Correlations differ for different varieties, which is logical, because each variety has a different genotype and specific genes forming various interactions. Taking into account all three varieties, high and positive correlations were found between: number of grains per spike and grain weight per spike (>0.78), number of spikelets per spike and number of grains per spike (>0.79), and number of spikelets per spike and grain weight per spike (>0.73).

abstract = "The investigation of three wheat varieties (PKB Talas, BG Merkur and PKB Lepoklasa) carried out at experimental field and laboratory of Institute PKB Agroekonomik, during two years 2009 and 2010. Correlations between morphological and production traits of plants number of shoots, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, 1000 grain weight and grain weight per spike, were studied. Correlations were observed separately for three Institute PKB Agroekonomik varieties. The manner of preparing data for calculating correlations influences obtained correlation values, and these values can differ substantially. Correlations calculated based on aggregated data are higher than those based on all data. Correlations differ for different varieties, which is logical, because each variety has a different genotype and specific genes forming various interactions. Taking into account all three varieties, high and positive correlations were found between: number of grains per spike and grain weight per spike (>0.78), number of spikelets per spike and number of grains per spike (>0.79), and number of spikelets per spike and grain weight per spike (>0.73).",

AB  - Proteins are important in determining the nutritional value of wheat, and among them gluten determines the baking quality of bread wheat and pasta-making technological properties of wheat. By assessing genetic parameters of wheat quality traits, it is possible to elucidate potential for improvement. The plant material consisted of 30 genotypes of bread and durum wheat of worldwide origin. The trials were sown at three locations in Serbia during two vegetation seasons 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. Protein content, wet gluten content, Zeleny sedimentation volume and deformation energy were determined by near infrared spectrometry. The objectives of this investigation were to assess: i) variability, components of variance, heritability in a broad sense(h(b)(2))ected genetic advance for protein content, wet gluten content, Zeleny sedimentation volume and deformation energy; ii) associations between agronomic characteristics and protein content, wet gluten content, Zeleny sedimentation volume and deformation energy in order to determine indirect selection feasibility. In durum wheat, the highest coefficients of genetic and phenotypic variation (CVg and CVph) were recorded for deformation energy in bread wheat (18% and 18.4%, respectively), whereas the lowest values of 4.1% and 4.6% were shown for protein content. The relation genetic component of variance (sigma(2)(g)) component of variance due to genotype x environment interaction (sigma(2)(g)) > 1 was observed for protein content (3.2), wet gluten content (2.9) and deformation energy (3.9), and equal to one for Zeleny sedimentation volume, in bread wheat. In durum wheat, sigma(2)(ge) /sigma(2)(g) > 1 was detected for protein content (1.4), wet gluten content (1.5), Zeleny sedimentation volume (2.1) and deformation energy (1.4). Considering very high and high h(b)(2) observed for deformation energy and Zeleny sedimentation volume (95.8% and 86.2%, respectively) in bread wheat, coupled with high genetic advance (36.3% and 28.1%, respectively), success from classical breeding can be anticipated. Grain thickness was strongly associated with Zeleny sedimentation volume, and to a lesser extent with protein content, wet gluten content and deformation energy in bread and durum wheat, and along with grain vitreousness in durum wheat, can serve for indirect selection.

AB  - Razvijeno i dobro organizirano sjemenarstvo podrazumijeva stalnu proizvodnju sjemena svih kategorija i na taj način održavanja nivoa genetske čistoće sorti pšenice. Ispitivane su tri sorte ozime pšenice Instituta PKB Agroekonomik različitih vrijednosti morfoloških osobina biljaka, rodnosti i osobina kvalitete zrna: PKB Kristina, PKB Roksanda i PKB Rodika. Svaka sorta pšenice uzgajana je u tri različite varijante agrotehničkih uvjeta, prilagođenih dobivanju tri kategorije sjemenskih usjeva: predosnovno sjeme, osnovno sjeme i certificiranono sjeme I. generacije. Kategorija sjemena predosnovno sjeme imala je najveće prosječne vrijednosti za obje godine istraživanja za ispitivane osobine: broj sekundarnih izdanaka, broj klasića u klasu i broj zrna u klasu. Kategorija sjemena predosnovno sjeme ima najveći broj klasića u klasu, što pokazuje da se oni razvijaju na dužim klasovima nego ostale kategorije sjemena. Kategorija sjemena predosnovno sjeme na osnovi ove karakteristike ima potencijal za formiranje većeg broja zrna u klasu nego ostale ispitivane kategorije sjemena. Kategorija sjemena certificirano sjeme I. generacije ima najmanji broj i najsitnija zrna, jer se ova kategorija sjemena proizvodi u najvećoj gustoći.
AB  - Developed and well organized seed production implies constant production of seeds of all categories and thus maintaining the level of genetic purity of wheat varieties. Three varieties of the Institute PKB Agroekonomik winter wheat, PKB Kristina, PKB Roksanda and PKB Rodika, of different value morphological characteristics of plants, level of fertility and grain quality characteristics were investigated. Each wheat variety was grown in three different variants of agritehnical conditions, adapted for obtaining three categories of seed plants: prebasic seed, basic seed and 1st generation certified seed. The prebasic seed category had the highest average values in both years of the experiment in the following examined traits: number of secondary shoots, number of spikelets in the spike and number of seeds per spike. The prebasic seed category had the highest number of spikelets in the spike which indicates that they develop on longer spikes than the other categories of seeds. Based on this characteristic, the prebasic seed category has the potential to form more seeds per spike than other investigated seed categories. The 1st generation certified seed category had the lowest number of seeds and the smallest seeds, because this seed category is produced in the highest density.

AB  - Triticale is a cereal species created by crossing the wheat and rye species. It is characterized by
good quality and high yielding capacity which is specific for wheat and high tolerance to abiotic
and biotic stress factors which is specific for rye. The high yield potential of triticale is
determined by genetics and influenced by environmental factors. The aim of the paper is to
present the results obtained at different triticale varieties under different climatic conditions
regarding the grain mass spike-1. Five triticale (xTriticosecale Wittm.) cultivars (KG 20, Bolero,
Rtanj, Odisej and Bogo) were investigated in field experiment which was conducted as a
randomised block design in five replications on 5m2 size of unit plot, during three years period
(2010-2013). In full stage of maturity 100 plants (20 plants per replication) were used for analysis
of grain mass spike-1. Obtained results for grain mass spike-1 showed significant differences
among studied triticale cultivars, years of experiment and interaction genotype/year. The average
value of grain mass spike-1 for all three years and all five tested cultivar of triticale was 2.28g.
The cultivar Bolero had the lowest average value (2.15g) and Odisej the highest value (2.52g) of
grain mass spike-1 in average for three years period.

The manner of preparing data for calculating correlations influences obtained correlation values, and these values can differ substantially. Correlations calculated based on aggregated data are higher than those based on all data. Correlations differ for different varieties, which is logical, because each variety has a different genotype and specific genes forming various interactions. Taking into account all three varieties, high and positive correlations were found between: number of grains per spike and grain weight per spike (>0.79), number of spikelets per spike and number of grains per spike (>0.80), and number of spikelets per spike and grain weight per spike (>0.74).",

The field trials were carried out at three locations in Serbia, as randomized complete block design with four replications. The genetic component of variance (sigma(2)(g)) predominated the genotype x environment interaction (sigma(2)(ge)) component for: P-i in bread wheat (3.0 times higher), P-p/P-i in bread wheat (2.1 times higher) and in durum wheat (1.2 times higher), YP content in bread wheat (2.2 times higher) and in durum wheat (1.7 times higher), and WSPH content in bread wheat (1.4 times higher). The relation sigma(2)(g)/sigma(2)(ge) for P-i content in durum wheat was equal to one. The sigma(2)(ge) prevailed sigma(2)(g) for: PA in bread wheat (1.7 times higher) and in durum wheat (5.7 times higher), PSH in durum wheat (3.7 times higher), and WSPH in durum wheat (5.2 times higher). High h(2) coupled with high expected genetic advance as percent of mean (GAM) were observed for: P-i (93.7% and 26.1%, respectively) in bread wheat, P-p/P-i relation in bread wheat (92.4% and 20.7%, respectively) and in durum wheat (87.2% and 20.8%, respectively), YP content in bread wheat (92.6% and 28.0%, respectively) and in durum wheat (90.7% and 28.1%, respectively), and WSPH content (88.9% and 25.8%, respectively) in bread wheat. PA content in bread and durum wheat had medium to medium high h(2) (50.5% and 77.9%, respectively), and low expected GAM (9.9% and 3.7%, respectively). GGE biplots with average-environment coordination (AEC) indicated less stability of durum wheat for PA, WSPH and PSH content.

Control of genetic identity by protein electrophoresis in varietal reproduction of wheat

AB  - Održanje i kontrola genetske čistoće, odnosno genetskog identiteta, jedan je
od krajnjih ciljeva sjemenarstva nakon priznavanja neke sorte pšenice. Primjena
pozitivne i negativne selekcije, na razini fenotipa pri sortnoj reprodukciji
pšenice, omogućila je sortnu čistoću od 99 i 100% u usjevima svih sjemenskih
kategorija.
U cilju ispitivanja genetske identičnosti, u ovom su radu analizirane
rezervne bjelačevine pšenice – glijadini, koji su metodom poliakrilne gel
elektroforeze razdvojeni na veliki broj frakcija koje pokazuju visoku
heterogenost. Od analiziranih sorti pšenice jedino je sorta PKB Rodika imala
genetsku čistoću od 100% za sve kategorije sjemena. Sorta PKB Kristina je
imala genetsku čistoću od 99% za kategoriju predosnovno sjeme, a sorta BG
Merkur 99% genetske čistoće za kategoriju – sjeme prve generacije C1.
Elektroforeza bjelančevina pokazala je da postoji divergentnost između
ispitivanih sorti pšenice po sastavu komponenti glijadinske frakcije, dok unutar
sorti postoji ujednačenost.
AB  - Maintenance and control of genetic purity and genetic identity is one of the
ultimate goals in seed production after the recognition of some varieties of
wheat. The application of positive and negative selection at the phenotypic level
in varietal reproduction of wheat, enabled 99 and 100% of varietal purity in
crops of all seed categories. In order to study the genetic identity, in this paper the reserve proteins of
wheat – gliadins were analyzed. They were separated by polyacrylic gel
electrophoresis into numerous components that showed great heterogeneity.
Of all the analyzed wheat varieties, only PKB Rodika variety had the
genetic purity of 100% in all categories of seed. PKB Kristina had the genetic
purity of 99% in the pre-basic seed category and the variety BG Merkur had
genetic purity of 99% in the seed of first generation – C1.
Protein electrophoresis showed there was the divergence among the
varieties of wheat in its composition of gliadin fractions, while there was
uniformity among defferent varietal reproductions within each variety.

AB  - The aim of this work was to examine variability and broad-sense heritability of grain morphometric traits of 30 selected genotypes of bread wheat and durum wheat, in regard to their significant impact on yield and traits of milling, baking and processing quality. Trials with selected wheat assortment were set during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 years at the three locations: Rimski Šančevi, Zemun Polje and Padinska Skela. Results of this investigation showed that the genotype was the most significant source of variation of grain length for bread and durum wheat with 91.1% and 46.3% of explained sum of squares, while the environment was the most important source of variation of grain width and grain thickness for bread wheat (44% and 41.2% of sum of squares) and durum wheat (42% and 44% of sum of squares). Broad-sense heritability was very high (> 90%) for grain length of bread and durum wheat, grain width of durum wheat and grain thickness of durum wheat. Broad-sense heritability was high for grain width and grain thickness of bread wheat, with the values of 83% and 88.8%, respectively. Considering the high obtained values of broad-sense heritability and dominance of the genetic component of variance of grain length, grain width and grain thickness of bread and durum wheat, the success of selection for increased values of these traits can be predicted.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je bio da se ispita varijabilnost i heritabilnost u širem smislu morfometrijskih osobina zrna 30 odabranih genotipova hlebne pšenice i durum pšenice s obzirom na njihov značajan uticaj na prinos i osobine mlinskog, pekarskog i procesnog kvaliteta. Ogledi sa izabranim sortimentom pšenice su izvedeni tokom 2010-2011. i 2011-2012. godine na tri lokaliteta: Rimski Šančevi, Zemun Polje i Padinska Skela. Rezultati analize varijanse su pokazali da je genotip bio najvažniji izvor variranja dužine zrna hlebne pšenice i durum pšenice sa 91,1% i 46,3% sume kvadrata, dok su ekološki faktori bili najznačajniji izvor variranja širine zrna i debljine zrna hlebne pšenice (44% i 41,2% sume kvadrata) i durum pšenice (42% i 44% sume kvadrata). Heritabilnost u širem smislu je bila veoma visoka sa vrednostima većim od 90% za dužinu zrna hlebne pšenice i durum pšenice, širinu zrna durum pšenice i debljinu zrna durum pšenice. Visoka heritabilnost u širem smislu je dobijena za širinu zrna i debljinu zrna hlebne pšenice sa vrednostima od 83% i 88,8%. S obzirom na visoke vrednosti dobijene heritabilnosti u širem smislu i dominaciju genetičke komponente varijanse u ukupnoj varijansi dužine, širine i debljine zrna hlebne i durum pšenice možemo predvideti uspeh selekcije na povećanu vrednost ovih osobina pšenice.

Effects of climatic factors on grain vitreousness stability and heritability in durum wheat

AB  - Modern durum wheat breeding programs are becoming more oriented toward creation of not only high-yield cultivars but also high quality, with good stability for the trait of interest. Vitreousness of grain is associated with semolina granulation, color, and protein content; it is regarded as one of the most important characteristics in the grading industry, affecting the commercial value of the commodity. A set of 15 winter and facultative durum wheat genotypes was tested for grain vitreousness across 6 environments for 2 consecutive years. Three-way analysis of variance showed that genotype, location, and year contributed 4.1%, 20.6%, and 42.2% to the total sum of squares, respectively. Interaction terms, including genotype, contributed 6.1% to the total sum of squares, and location x year contributed 27.0%. Stability of grain vitreousness for the examined breeding lines and cultivars of durum wheat was shown by the site's regression. Broad-sense heritability of grain vitreousness was estimated to be 71%. Climatic variables were used for factorial regression modeling, and most of the interaction term for grain vitreousness was explained by mean temperatures in June (54.4%) and April (14.2%), and precipitation (14.4%) and sunshine hours (14.3%) in March. During the grain filling and grain ripening stages, the most influential climatic variables in explaining interaction were maximum temperature (43.4%), precipitation (30.9%), and sunshine hours (5.6%).

abstract = "Modern durum wheat breeding programs are becoming more oriented toward creation of not only high-yield cultivars but also high quality, with good stability for the trait of interest. Vitreousness of grain is associated with semolina granulation, color, and protein content; it is regarded as one of the most important characteristics in the grading industry, affecting the commercial value of the commodity. A set of 15 winter and facultative durum wheat genotypes was tested for grain vitreousness across 6 environments for 2 consecutive years. Three-way analysis of variance showed that genotype, location, and year contributed 4.1%, 20.6%, and 42.2% to the total sum of squares, respectively. Interaction terms, including genotype, contributed 6.1% to the total sum of squares, and location x year contributed 27.0%. Stability of grain vitreousness for the examined breeding lines and cultivars of durum wheat was shown by the site's regression. Broad-sense heritability of grain vitreousness was estimated to be 71%. Climatic variables were used for factorial regression modeling, and most of the interaction term for grain vitreousness was explained by mean temperatures in June (54.4%) and April (14.2%), and precipitation (14.4%) and sunshine hours (14.3%) in March. During the grain filling and grain ripening stages, the most influential climatic variables in explaining interaction were maximum temperature (43.4%), precipitation (30.9%), and sunshine hours (5.6%).",
