AB  - Salata (Lactuca sativa L.) je jednogodišnja biljka, sa umerenim
zahtevima prema faktorima spoljašnje sredine, kratkim vegetacionim
periodom i mogućnošću gajenja tokom cele godine. Ogledi sa šest
genotipova salate (‘Kiribati’, ‘Murai’, ‘Aquino’, ‘Gaugin’, ‘Aleppo’,
‘Carmesi’) bili su postavljeni u kompaniji Iceberg Salat Centar. Biljke su
gajene u plasteniku, bez dodatnog grejanja, tokom tri uzastopne sezone
(jesen, zima i proleće), primenom mikrobioloških đubriva (EM Aktiv,
Vital Tricho i njihova kombinacija). Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da se
utvrdi uticaj genotipa, mikrobioloških đubriva i sezone na sadržaj ukupno
rastvorljivih materija i organskih kiselina. Najveću vrednost ukupno
rastvorljivih materija i organskih kiselina ostvarila je crvena sorta ‘Murai‘
u zimskom ogledu primenom đubriva Vital Tricho i EM Aktiv redom.
Primena đubriva uglavnom nije uticala na vrednosti ukupno rastvorljivih
materija i organskih kiselina, gde je tokom svih sezona sadržaj ostao
stabilan. Istraživanje je pokazalo da su glavni faktori uticali na
posmatrane parametre, sa izraženim uticajem genotipa.

Istraživanje je pokazalo da su glavni faktori uticali naposmatrane parametre, sa izraženim uticajem genotipa.
AB  - Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is an annual plant, with moderate requirements to environmental factors, short vegetation period and the possibility to cultivate throughout whole year. Trials with six lettuce cultivars (‘Kiribati’, ‘Murai’, ‘Aquino’, ‘Gaugin’, ‘Aleppo’, ‘Carmesi’) were set up in the company Iceberg Salat Centar. The plants were grown in a greenhouse, without additional heating, during three consecutive seasons (autumn, winter and spring), using microbiological fertilisers (EM Aktiv, Vital Tricho and their combination). The aim of this study was to determine the influence of genotype, microbiological fertilisers and season on the content of total soluble solids and organic acids. The highest value of total soluble solids and organic acids showed red cultivar 'Murai' in the winter trial using fertilisers Vital Tricho and EM Aktiv, respectively. Application of fertilisers generally did not affect the values of total soluble solids and organic acids, whereas the content remained stable during all seasons. The research showed that the main factors influenced tested parameters, with a great impact of the genotype.

AB  - Pasulj i boranija pripadaju istoj botaničkoj vrsti (Phaseolus vulgaris
L.). Pasulj se gaji zbog fiziološki zrelog semena a boranija zbog mahuna,
koje su u tehnološkoj zrelosti još nedozreli plodovi. S druge strane, nema
razlike u tehnologiji gajenja semenskih useva pasulja i boranija. U radu je
proučavan uticaj sorte na broj mahuna po biljci i prinos semena po
jedinici površine šest sorti pasulja i boranija. Proučavane sorte bile su
Galeb, Palanački zlatnožuti (PZŽ), Biser, Šumadinka, Darina i Palanačka
rana. Najveći prosečan broj mahuna po biljci (8,7) i najveći prinos semena po jedinici površine (1190,83 kg ha-1) zabeležen je kod sorte
Biser. Najmanji prosečan broj mahuna po biljci (0,74) i najniži prinos
(150,73 kg ha-1) zabeležen je kod sorte PZŽ. Među sortama koje se u
ishrani koriste kao boranija, po broju mahuna i prinosu po jedinici
površine izdvaja se sorta Palanačka rana sa 7,03 mahuna po biljci i
1005,5 kg ha-1.
AB  - Botanicaly the same species (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), common bean
and green bena have different use. Common bean varieties are used as a
mature seeds and green bean varieties as an unmature pods. When it
comes to seed production technology, there is not any differences
between common bean and green bean seed production. In this work, the
effects of different Phaseolus vulgaris L. varieties on number of pods per
plant and seed yield per hectare were examined. Examined varieties were:
Galeb, Palanački zlatnožuti (PZŽ), Biser, Šumadinka, Darina and
Palanačka rana. The highest average number of pods per plant, 8.7 and
the highest seed yield 1190.83 kg/ha, was recorded for Biser variety. The
lowest average number of pods per plant (0.74) and the lowest yield of
150.73 kg/ha was recorded for PZŽ variety. Among the green bean
varieties the highest number of pods (7.03) and yield (1005.5 kg/ha) were
performed with variety Palanačka rana.

Production characteristics of Egyptian walking onion (Allium x proliferum) grown in the Šumadija and Braničevo region

AB  - Egyptian Walking Onion (Allium x proliferum) is a perennial species, member of the Alliaceae family. In Serbia and broader region, it is grown only locally on small areas along the edges of the gardens, vineyards and orchards, because it does not form large and compact bulbs that have market value. On the other hand, the key advantage of Walking Egyptian Onion is greater tolerance to low temperatures and frost, i.e. early ripening of young onions. This allows producers to appear on the market earlier and consumers to have a quality product from the second half of winter until early spring. A multi-year study was conducted with the aim to determine the possibility of growing the Egyptian Walking Onion and its production and nutritional characteristics in the Šumadija and Braničevo Regions. On the four experimental locations (Žabari, Smederevska Palanka, Velika Plana and Jagodina) 15 samples from sole crops and intercrops with wines (Vitis vinifera L.) were collected for further investigation. The average values of plant height, number of leaves per plant, plant mass and antioxidative activity were measured, and ranged from 45.5 to 67.2 cm, 5.0 to 5.67, 57.75 to 77.5 g and 0.033 to 0.705 mg/g of fresh matter, respectively, depending of which part of plant was analyzed (green leaves or etiolated parts of leaves bassis). Although, thanks to this preliminary research, significant data have been collected, it is necessary to continue further research, because it was not entirely possible to report clear conclusions.

On the other hand, the key advantage of Walking Egyptian Onion is greater tolerance to low temperatures and frost, i.e. early ripening of young onions. This allows producers to appear on the market earlier and consumers to have a quality product from the second half of winter until early spring. A multi-year study was conducted with the aim to determine the possibility of growing the Egyptian Walking Onion and its production and nutritional characteristics in the Šumadija and Braničevo Regions. On the four experimental locations (Žabari, Smederevska Palanka, Velika Plana and Jagodina) 15 samples from sole crops and intercrops with wines (Vitis vinifera L.) were collected for further investigation. The average values of plant height, number of leaves per plant, plant mass and antioxidative activity were measured, and ranged from 45.5 to 67.2 cm, 5.0 to 5.67, 57.75 to 77.5 g and 0.033 to 0.705 mg/g of fresh matter, respectively, depending of which part of plant was analyzed (green leaves or etiolated parts of leaves bassis). Although, thanks to this preliminary research, significant data have been collected, it is necessary to continue further research, because it was not entirely possible to report clear conclusions.",

Worldwide, the average yield of beans has varied from 786 to 894.7 in the past ten years. In the same period, the areas under beans have varied significantly, but there is a gradual increase in arable land under this crop (30,685 thousand ha in 2010 to 33,066 thousand ha in 2019). In that period, there has been also an increase in production (from 24,775,394 t in 2010 to 2,8902,672 t in 2019). The paper analyzes the situation in bean production in the Republic of Serbia in the period from 2001 to 2020, as well as possible reasons for the observed trends. In that period, average yields varied over the years ranging from 808 kg/ha (in 2012) to 1294 kg/ha (in 2006) and can be explained by favorable and unfavorable temperature conditions. Despite the relatively good prices of beans, which varied from 0.99 to 1.35 USD/kg in 2004 to 2.23 to 4.12 USD/kg in 2014, depending on the size and color of the seeds, and possible profit, a significant decrease in the area under beans was observed (from 24,968 ha in 2001 to 8,512 ha in 2020) and a reduction in total production (30,927 t in 2001 to 9,253 t in 2020).

AB  - У Инситуту за повртарство у Смедеревској Паланци сваке године
се генерише велика количина отпада биљног порекла. С друге
стране, сваке године се обавља и набавка појединих средстава за
исхрану биљака и органских оплемењивача земљишта (за
производњу расада) и за те сврхе издвајају се значајна новчана
средства. Овај рад представља покушај да се ефикаснијом употребом
расположивих ресурса смање трошкови, а производња учини
ефикаснијом и са мање негативних ефеката на животну средину.
Биљни отпад, мерен је по фракцијама уз одређивање масе,
специфичне масе и запрeмине. Поједине вредности одређене су
рачунским путем. За потребе Института, пројектована дужина
компостишта, при задатој висини 1,5 m и ширини условљеној
расположивом механизацијом (3,5 m) је 9,51 m. Наведене димензије,
довољне су за обраду 50 m3 почетног материјала и продукцију 26,9
до 31,4 m3 компоста на годишњем нивоу. Наведена количина
компоста задовољила би већи део годишњих потреба за тресетом,
неопходним за производњу расада.
AB  - Every year, a large amount of biomass waste is generated at the
Institute for Vegetable crops Smederevska Palanka. At the same time, the
procurement of certain fertilizers for plant nutrition and organic soil
enhancers (for the production of seedlings) is carried out, and significant
funds are allocated for those purposes. This paper is an attempt to reduce
costs by making more efficient use of available resources and to make
production more efficient and with fewer negative effects on the
environment. Plant waste was measured by fractions with determination
of mass, specific mass and volume. Individual values are determined by
calculation. For the needs of the Institute, the projected length of the
composting site, at a given height of 1.5 m and a width conditioned by the
available machinery (3.5 m) is 9.51 m. The stated dimensions are
sufficient for processing 50 m3 of starting waste material and production
of 26.9 to 31.4 m3 of compost per year. The stated amount of compost
would satisfy most of the annual needs for peat, necessary for the
production of seedlings.

AB  - Анализом повртарске производње у Србији дошли смо до закључка да су све слутње везане за могуће проблеме у овом сектору сасвим оправдане, али и да су капацитети за производњу и даље највећи у региону. Имајући у виду целокупну ситуацију везану за глобалне економске и климатске промене, које утичу и на пољопривредну производњу, изражену депопулацију села, уситњен посед, приступачност квалитетног земљишта и вода, тешкоће у трансферу знања, либерализацију тржишта и очување животне средине, повртарска производња у Србији се већ суочава са проблемима који њен развој могу значајно успорити. И поред свих тих проблема повртарска производња у Србији има перспективу. Управо је глобална пандемија везана за Ковид19 и све што се око ње догађало и догађа, показала зашто је та перспектива још извеснија. Храна је ресурс који у кризним ситуацијама може да буде и луксуз. У таквим ситуацијама економија се оставља на страну. Стабилне су само државе и друштва која имају сопствену производњу хране. У том правцу треба да иде и размишљање везано за будућност аграра у Србији, па и повртарске производње као једне од најинтезивнијих грана пољопривреде.
AB  - By analyzing vegetable production in Serbia, we came to the conclusion that all premonitions about possible problems in this sector are completely justified, but also that the production capacities are still the largest in the region.Having in mind the overall situation related to global economic and climate changes, which also affect agricultural production, pronounced depopulation of villages, fragmented holdings, accessibility of quality land and water, difficulties in knowledge transfer, market liberalization and environmental protection, vegetable production in Serbiait is already facing problems that can significantly slow down its development.Despite all these problems, vegetable production in Serbia has a perspective.It was the global pandemic related to Covid19 and everything that happened and is happening around it, that showed why that perspective is even more certain.Food is a resource that can be a luxury in crisis situations. In such situations, the economy is left aside.Only states and societies that have their own food production are stable. Thinking about the future of agriculture in Serbia, as well as vegetable production as one of the most intensive branches of agriculture, should go in that direction.

The productivity and quality of Lactuca sativa as influenced by microbiological fertilisers and seasonal conditions

AB  - Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is an annual, leafy crop with a short growth in cool season. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of microbiological fertilisers, genotype and growing seasons on the fresh weight (FW), concentration of nitrate and vitamin C in the rosette (head) of red lettuce. The greenhouse experiment included three cultivars ('Murai', 'Gaugin' and 'Carmesi') of red lettuce grown in fertile soil during successive growing seasons: autumn, winter and spring. Three types of microbiological fertilisers: (1) mixture of fungi and bacteria and their products, referred to as effective microorganisms (EM), (2) containing Trichoderma spp. and (3) mixture of EM and Trichoderma spp., were applied for red lettuce. Microbiological fertilisers were applied in the soil and via foliar spray before planting. Significantly higher FW of the rosette was in spring and winter than in autumn. The 'Murai' showed significantly the highest (264.7 g) FW of the rosette in spring. Trichoderma spp. fertiliser and the combination of effective microorganisms and Trichoderma spp. significantly increased FW of the rosette for the 'Murai' and 'Gaugin' grown in autumn. The highest nitrate concentration was observed for winter grown 'Carmesi' (805.2 mg kg(-1)) treated by effective microorganisms, and the lowest for spring grown 'Gaugin' (62.2 mg kg(-1)) without microbial fertilisers. Generally, the application of microbiological fertilisers contributed to a significantly higher concentration of nitrate in the rosette of red lettuce. The concentration of nitrate did not exceed maximum level for protected lettuce (EC No 563/2002). In spring, significantly the highest concentration of vitamin C (12.2 mg 100 g(-1) FW) was found in the 'Carmesi' treated with Trichoderma spp. Microbiological fertilisers contributed to significantly higher concentration of vitamin C in the 'Gaugin' and 'Carmesi' grown in winter and spring. This study indicated that genotype, treatment and growth season affected all the tested parameters highlighting the importance of application of Trichoderma spp. or the combination of Trichoderma spp. with effective microorganisms.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of microbiological fertilisers, genotype and growing seasons on the fresh weight (FW), concentration of nitrate and vitamin C in the rosette (head) of red lettuce. The greenhouse experiment included three cultivars ('Murai', 'Gaugin' and 'Carmesi') of red lettuce grown in fertile soil during successive growing seasons: autumn, winter and spring. Three types of microbiological fertilisers: (1) mixture of fungi and bacteria and their products, referred to as effective microorganisms (EM), (2) containing Trichoderma spp. and (3) mixture of EM and Trichoderma spp., were applied for red lettuce. Microbiological fertilisers were applied in the soil and via foliar spray before planting. Significantly higher FW of the rosette was in spring and winter than in autumn. The 'Murai' showed significantly the highest (264.7 g) FW of the rosette in spring. Trichoderma spp. fertiliser and the combination of effective microorganisms and Trichoderma spp. significantly increased FW of the rosette for the 'Murai' and 'Gaugin' grown in autumn. The highest nitrate concentration was observed for winter grown 'Carmesi' (805.2 mg kg(-1)) treated by effective microorganisms, and the lowest for spring grown 'Gaugin' (62.2 mg kg(-1)) without microbial fertilisers. Generally, the application of microbiological fertilisers contributed to a significantly higher concentration of nitrate in the rosette of red lettuce. The concentration of nitrate did not exceed maximum level for protected lettuce (EC No 563/2002). AB  - Potrošačke navike, nameću i nove trendove u selekciji paprika. Sorte
paprika dugih, crvenih plodova, namenjenih preradi su veoma popularne u ovom delu
Evrope. U dvogodišnjem periodu ispitivane su četiri domaće sorte paprika slonovo uvo,
prizrenka, emina i slonova noga u tipu kanije (kapije). Značajno veću prosečnu masu
ploda kao i randman ploda u odnosu na vrednost drugih sorti imala je sorta slonova
noga (275,15 g). Debljina perikarpa se kretala od 4,30 (prizrenka) do 6,28 mm (slonovo
uvo). Kod sorti slonovo uvo i slonova noga zabeležene su najmanje i najveće vrednosti
za ukupno rastvorljivu suvu materiju (4,03 odnosno 5,77%), pri čemu se sorte nisu
značajno razlikovale. Ispitivani parametri nisu se značajno razlikovali po godinama.
Sorte slonovo uvo i slonova noga, se na osnovu analizairanih osobina mogu preporučiti
kao sorte sa najkvalitetnijim plodovima.

tokom dvogodišnjih ispitivanja u agroekološkim uslovima lokaliteta Sombor i
Odžaci kod Trstenika. Analizirani su prinos, dužina vegetacionog perioda, broj
krtola po biljci, prosečna masa krtole i udeo pojedinih frakcija. Godine su se
razlikovale po temperaturama i sumama padavina u periodu april-septembar, a
sorte su različito reagovale na promenjene klimatske uslove. Dužina vegetacionog
perioda kod svih sorti bila je veća u Somboru u obe godine u odnosu na Odžake.
Sorta Kiebitz se odlikuje najkraćim (u proseku 104 dana) a sorta Saturna najdužim
vegetacionim periodom (110 dana). Najveći prosečan prinos imala je sorta Lady
Claire (42775 kg/ha), a najmanji Kiebitz (37693 kg/ha). Saturna je imala najveći
broj krtola (14,7), a najmanju prosečnu masu krtole (74,3g), dok je najmanji broj
krtola imala sorta Kiebitz (10,4), a najveću masu krtola imala je sorta Madison
(101,0g). Sorta Saturna se ističe i nepovoljnim udelom frakcija poželjnih za
preradu u čips.

AB  - Салата је једногодишња врста која припада групи лиснатог поврћа, богата минералима, антиоксидантима, витаминима. Циљ истраживања био је да се утврди утицај генотипа, микробиолошких ђубрива и сезоне на садржај витамина Ц у старим и младим листовима. Три зелене сорте (′Kiribati′, ′Aleppo′, ′Aquino′) су гајене у пластенику током три узастопне сезоне уз примену микробиолошких ђубрива (EМ Aktiv, Vital Tricho и њихова комбинација). Највећи садржај витамина Ц у старим и младим листовима показала је сорта ′Aleppo′ у јесен (8,93 mg/100g; 12,36 mg/100g). Микробиолошка ђубрива допринела су повећању садржаја витамина Ц код сорти ′Aleppo′ у пролеће и ′Aquino′ у јесен и зиму.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of genotypes, microbiological fertilizers and seasons on vitamin C content in outer and inner leaves. Three green cultivars (′Kiribati′, ′Aleppo′, ′Aquino′) were grown in a greenhouse during three successive seasons with application of microbiological fertilizers (EМ Aktiv, Vital Tricho and combination). The highest vitamin C content in both leaves showed cultivar ′Aleppo′ in autumn (8,93 mg/100g; 12,36 mg/100g FW). Microbiological fertilizers increased level of vitamin C in cultivar ′Aleppo′ in spring and ′Aquino′ in autumn and winter.

AB  - Lettuce belongs to a group of leafy vegetable crops with special importance in human
nutrition. Along with healthy compounds lettuce can accumulate nitrate in leaves. The
purpose of this study was to examine the effects of genotype, microbiological fertilizers and
season on plant weight and nitrate content in outer and inner leaves. Green cultivars
(′Kiribati′, ′Aquino′, ′Aleppo′) were cultivated in a fertile soil, in a greenhouse trial at the
company Iceberg Salat Centar, during three successive seasons (autumn, winter and spring).
Microbiological fertilizers (EM Aktiv, Vital Tricho and combination of EM Aktiv and Vital
Tricho) were applied in the soil before trials and foliar. In spring cultivar ′Aquino′ showed the
highest head fresh weight (360.3 g). All microbiological fertilizers led to increased head fresh
weight in ′Aquino′ during autumn trial. Mainly fresh weight was higher in spring and winter
compared to autumn. Cultivar ′Aquino′ showed the highest nitrate content (985.4 mg/kg,
autumn) in outer leaves with application of Vital Tricho. Opposite to that, the lowest nitrate
content was found in inner leaves of cultivar ′Aleppo′ (35.4 mg/kg, spring) with combination
of fertilizers. Generally, microbiological fertilizers significantly increased nitrate content in
outer and decreased in inner leaves. In both leaves the lowest nitrate level was measured in
spring season. During all trials nitrate content remained under allowed level of European
Commission Regulation (563/2002) for protected lettuce.

abstract = "Lettuce belongs to a group of leafy vegetable crops with special importance in human
nutrition. Along with healthy compounds lettuce can accumulate nitrate in leaves. The
purpose of this study was to examine the effects of genotype, microbiological fertilizers and
season on plant weight and nitrate content in outer and inner leaves. Green cultivars
(′Kiribati′, ′Aquino′, ′Aleppo′) were cultivated in a fertile soil, in a greenhouse trial at the
company Iceberg Salat Centar, during three successive seasons (autumn, winter and spring).
Microbiological fertilizers (EM Aktiv, Vital Tricho and combination of EM Aktiv and Vital
Tricho) were applied in the soil before trials and foliar. In spring cultivar ′Aquino′ showed the
highest head fresh weight (360.3 g). All microbiological fertilizers led to increased head fresh
weight in ′Aquino′ during autumn trial. Mainly fresh weight was higher in spring and winter
compared to autumn. Cultivar ′Aquino′ showed the highest nitrate content (985.4 mg/kg,
autumn) in outer leaves with application of Vital Tricho. Opposite to that, the lowest nitrate
content was found in inner leaves of cultivar ′Aleppo′ (35.4 mg/kg, spring) with combination
of fertilizers. Generally, microbiological fertilizers significantly increased nitrate content in
outer and decreased in inner leaves. In both leaves the lowest nitrate level was measured in
spring season. During all trials nitrate content remained under allowed level of European
Commission Regulation (563/2002) for protected lettuce.",

AB  - Watermelon is an annual vegetable crop from Cucurbitaceae family. Five mini watermelon
cultivars (red-fleshed ′Faerie′ F1, ′Golden crown′ F1, ′Bonanza′ F1 and yellowfleshed
′Sureness′ F1, ′Yellow baby′ F1) were grown in open field experiment from May to
July 2018. Plants were grown on a fertile soil, covered with black mulch film, on a distance
75x120 cm. During vegetation period regular agricultural practices were applied
(fertirrigation, weeding and preventive protection against diseases and pests). Fruits were
harvested after 60 days from planting. The aim of this study was to examine morphological
traits of five cultivars in full physiological maturity. Fruit weight ranged between 1.57-2.65
kg with the highest value in cultivar ′Sureness′. Number of fruits ranged from 20 (′Yellow
baby′, ′Sureness′) to 35 (′Faerie′). Rind thickness ranged between 5.22-11.91 mm with the
highest value in ′Yellow baby′. Total soluble solids ranged from 9.5-10.95 °Brix and randman
between 37-49%. Among all cultivars, red-fleshed ′Bonanza′ showed the highest randman and
total soluble solids (49% and 10.95 °Brix, respectively). Opposite to that, the lowest total
soluble solids showed yellow-fleshed cultivars ′Sureness′ and ′Yellow baby′. Generally,
yellow cultivars showed higher fruit weight and rind thickness, whereas red cultivars showed
higher number of fruits per plant, total soluble solids and randman. The present study outlines
that ′Bonanza′ and ′Faerie′ showed the highest quality (soluble solids content) among tested
varieties.

AB  - Posmatrajući celokupnu svetsku proizvodnju povrća, dominira
konvencionalni koncept gajenja, koji je opterećen upotrebom pesticida. Upotreba
pesticida direktno ugrožava zdravlje ljudi kao i životnu sredinu. Alternativu predstavlja
koncept organske proizvodnje biljaka. Njen glavni nedostatak je cena. Međutim, danas
postoji trend povećanja potražnje za organskom hranom. U Srbiji 0,44% obradivih
površina je pod organskom proizvodnjom, što je nedovoljno. Pored troškova
proizvodnje, kao razlog navodi se i nedostatak organski sertifikovanog semena povrća.
Na osnovu analize organske proizvodnje semena cvekle, mrkve, rotkvice, pasulja, salate
i tikvica može se zaključiti da su ove proizvodnje ekonomski opravdane.

concept of cultivation which is burdened by the use of pesticides. The use of pesticides
directly negatively affect to human health and the environment. An alternative is the
concept of organic production. Its main disadvantage is the price. However, there is a
trend of increasing demand for organic food today. In Serbia, 0.44% of arable land is
under organic production, which is insufficient. The reason is also the lack of
organically certified vegetable seed. According to the analysis of organic production of
seeds of beetroot, carrots, radish, beans, salads and zucchini, it can be concluded that
these production is economically justified.

AB  - The stability of bioactive components: vitamin C and phenols in thermally processed tomato juice for 12 months in three different storage conditions was studied. The experiment was carried out on thermally treated tomato juice made from a selected line of industrial tomatoes (SPO-109). Mashed tomato juice without skin and seeds was cooked for 7 min at 100oC. The samples were stored in the light at +20oC; in the dark at +20oC; and in the dark at +4oC. The measurement of the changes of the bioactive components parameters during 12 months of storage was performed at 2 month-intervals. Degradation of phenols was not significant for 12 months of storage. Different ambient conditions caused significant changes and loss of nutrients. Vitamin C was lost when stored in the light for the first two months of storage (30.35%), and after one year from 41.56% for storage in the dark at +20oC (24.58%), and 25.51% at +4oC. There was no difference in vitamin C content when stored in dark conditions at different temperatures, while significantly important differences were found between storing in the light and storing in the dark at + 20oC and + 4oC, respectively.

AB  - Салата (Lactuca sativa L.) је једногодишња биљка из фамилије Asteraceae која припада групи лиснатог поврћа. Циљ истраживања био је да се утврди утицај микробиолошких ђубрива на принос различитих генотипова салате. Изведени су огледи у пластенику са шест сорти салате (′Kiribati′ RZ, ′Murai′ RZ, ′Aquino′ RZ, ′Gaugin′ RZ, ′Aleppo′ RZ, ′Carmesi′ RZ) током јесени уз примену микробиолошких ђубрива (Em Aktiv, Vital Tricho и њихова комбинација). Највећи принос показала је сорта ′Aquino′ у комбинацији ђубрива Em Aktiv и Vital Tricho а резултати указују да су генотип и ђубриво имали утицај на принос салате.
AB  - Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is an annual plant belonging to Asteraceae family and to a group of leafy vegetables. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of different microbiological fertilizers on the yield of various lettuce genotypes. Six lettuce cultivars (′Kiribati′ RZ, ′Murai′ RZ, ′Aquino′ RZ, ′Gaugin′ RZ, ′Aleppo′ RZ, ′Carmesi′ RZ) were grown in the greenhouse experiment during autumn with application of microbiological fertilizers (Em Aktiv, Vital Tricho and combination of Em Aktiv and Vital Tricho). Cultivar ′Aquino′ showed the highest yield with combination of Em Aktiv and Vital Tricho. Our results indicate that genotype and microbiological fertilizer affected lettuce yield.

AB  - This research aimed to determine the effects of different cover crops and application of bio-fertilizer on dynamic of nitrogen in the soil and sweet maize yield. Also, we evaluated the effect of fall-winter species (common vetch, field pea, winter oats, fodder kale) and a mixture of vetch and field pea with oats used as cover crops, as such as dead organic mulch and traditional variant, without coverage on biomass, chlorophyll and protein content in leaves and grain of main crop. Biomass production and N uptake by cover crops ranged from 4.25 to 90.20 kg ha(-1) and from 0.34 to 133.80 kg ha(-1) N, respectively, depending on cover crop type. At harvest soil nitrate content in treatments with cover crops was 50-90% lower than in the control, reducing spring N leaching risk. Residual mineral N significantly increased with application of microbiological fertilizer. The chlorophyll content of the main crop was significantly lower in treatments without cover crops. Consequently, sweet maize yield was the highest in fodder kale and field pea (7263.83 and 7177.27 kg ha(-1)) treatments, but the smallest in winter oat and common vetch (6802.47 and 6184.14 kg ha(-1)). In terms of all investigated traits, particularly grain yield, cover crops and microbiological fertilizer expressed more efficiency in the dry year. It could be concluded that N content should be controlled effectively by sowing main crops after planting of cover crops in biological farming systems in a semiarid region.

AB  - Owing to the content of hormones, vitamins and enzymes, brown algae extract, Ascophyllum nodosum L. (ANE) has plant growth promoting effect despite the small content of the major plant nutrients (N, P, K etc.). In addition, due to its natural content of physiologically active substances, ANE can alleviate the effects of stress in treated plants. This may have a particularly great importance for the winter production of vegetables in greenhouses in which the soil is usually highly saturated with nutrients. In order to determine the plant growth promoting effects of three different ANE, the experiment was conducted in the greenhouse of the Institute of vegetable crops in Smederevska Palanka, Serbia, on the vertisol soil type. The low-temperature tolerant species radish (Raphanus sativus var. radicula L.), spinach (Spinacia olerace L.) and garlic (Allium sativum L.) were sown in late autumn and treated with three different ANE. Plant height, plant mass, the number of leaves per plant and yield were measured. Comparing to untreated plants, examined traits on radish treated with ANE were not significantly different. However, ANE enhanced the plant mass and yields of spinach and onion. The application of ANE for vegetable cultivation in greenhouses during the winter can be recommended for conventional as well as for organic production systems.

AB  - A great number of spring garlic populations are present in Serbia. It is a very heterogeneous biological material. To date, it has been little studied. Therefore, the aim was to study its production and chemical characteristics. Eighteen populations of spring garlic were examined. Most of the production of this garlic in Serbia is based on them. They were examined in Zminjak, which is located in the central Macva (Serbia). The method of field experiments was used. The research lasted for three years. The results comprise two groups of parameters. The first group contains the results which show the most important productive characteristics (weight of bulb, number of cloves per bulb, bulb yield). The second group consists of the parameters for chemical characteristics of the investigated populations (dry matter, etheric oil, and alliin). In this case, the populations demonstrated a significant influence, and their stability was also very conspicuous. Most of the investigated populations of spring garlic can serve as a good resultant material for obtaining new cultivars. The populations can be classified as follows: SG-18, SG-25, SG-28, SG-16, SG-29 (yield), SG-21, SG-26 (technological quality) and SG-29, SG-18, SG-16 (foodstuff and pharmaceutical quality). They can remain as populations, but it would be significantly better to create new cultivars by using them.

Preservation of vitamin C, lycopene and carbohydrate content in tomato dried in a tunnel type dryer

AB  - The aim of this study was to find an optimal way of tomato drying in a tunnel type dryer, in order to achieve the lowest possible losses in nutritive value of dried tomato products. Domestic variety of tomato (SP-109) was used in this research. Drying was performed in three ways, applying five temperature regimes, as follows: cocurrent system (variant 1 at 70-80 oC; variant 2 at 90-75 oC), countercurrent system (variant 1 at 55-65 oC, variant 2 at 65-75 oC) and combined system (85-55 oC and 55-65 oC). In these systems, the kinetic of changes in nutritive value of tomato fruits was monitored by measuring the content of carbohydrates, lycopene and vitamin C. Different influences of temperature regimes on nutritive value of dried tomato were observed at the level of statistical difference (LSD 0.05; 0.01) in the researched systems. Cocurrent system was statistically significant for differences in temperature modes (variant 1 and variant 2). Monitoring of the tomato drying kinetics showed that, in all variants, period of constant drying rate lasted about 3.5 h and that the total drying was the fastest in parallel cocurrent flow of non-saturated hot air and material. The content of total carbohydrates in tomato was dependent on the temperature regime of the tested drying systems. The carbohydrate content obtained in tomato samples dried at lower temperatures was higher compared to the values observed in the samples dried at higher drying temperatures. Significant losses of vitamin C were determined in all drying systems. The lycopene content under all experimental conditions generally showed a tendency to decrease slightly. Comparing its content in dry and fresh tomato fruits, the loss ranged from 4.94% to 19.98% but did not reach the significant level as the occurrence remained below 95% of cases.
AB  - Cilj ove studije bio je pronalaženje optimalnog načina sušenja paradajza u tunelskom tipu sušara kako bi se smanjili gubici vrednosti nutritijenata kod sušenog proizvoda paradajza. U ovom istraživanju korišćena je domaća sorta paradajza (SP-109). Istraživanje je izvedeno u tunelskom tipu sušara na tri načina u pet temperaturnih režima. Sušenje je izvedeno u sistemu paralelnog (varijanta 1 na 70-80 oC, varijanta 2 na 90-75 oC), suprotnosmernom (varijanta 1 na 55-65 oC, varijanta 2 na 65-75 oC) i kombinovanog sistema strujanja vazduha (85-55 oC i 55- 65 oC). U ovim sistemima sušenja praćena je kinetika promena nutritivnih vrednosti ploda paradajza: sadržaj ugljenih hidrata (%), likopena i askorbinske kiseline (vitamin C). Utvrđeni su različiti uticaji temperaturnih režima na nivou statističke razlike (LSD 0.05; 0.01) ispitivanih sistema za nutritivnu vrednost sušenog paradajza. Paralelni sistem je bio statistički značajan za razlike u varijanti temperature 1 i varijanti 2. Prateći kinetiku sušenja paradajza utvrđeno je da u svim varijantama period konstantnog sušenja traje oko 3,5 časa i da je za ukupno sušenje najbrži paralelni protok toplog vazduha i materijala. Sadržaj ugljenih hidrata u uzorcima paradajza koji su sušeni na nižim temperaturama bio je veći u poređenju sa sadržajem ugljenih hidrata koji je utvpđen u uzorcima osušenim na višim temperaturama sušenja. Na nižim temperaturama njihov sadržaj je bio veći nego kod viših temperatura sušenja. Značajni gubici vitamina C određeni su u svim sistemima sušenja. Vrednost likopena u svim eksperimentalnim uslovima sušenja pokazuje tendenciju blagog smanjenja. Poredeći sadržaj u suvim i svežim plodovima paradajza, gubitak je bio od 4,94% do 19,98%, ali ne na značajnom nivou.

Sadržaj ugljenih hidrata u uzorcima paradajza koji su sušeni na nižim temperaturama bio je veći u poređenju sa sadržajem ugljenih hidrata koji je utvpđen u uzorcima osušenim na višim temperaturama sušenja. Na nižim temperaturama njihov sadržaj je bio veći nego kod viših temperatura sušenja. Značajni gubici vitamina C određeni su u svim sistemima sušenja. Vrednost likopena u svim eksperimentalnim uslovima sušenja pokazuje tendenciju blagog smanjenja. Poredeći sadržaj u suvim i svežim plodovima paradajza, gubitak je bio od 4,94% do 19,98%, ali ne na značajnom nivou.",

AB  - Selection of tomato lines for industrial use regarding their nutritional value is a potential that will reflect in the final product obtained from tomato fruits. At the same time, technological process of preparation of tomato juice (100 °C), as well as hot air drying, was studied in order to establish an optimal technological process that is the least disrupting for the natural potential of nutrients contained in fresh fruits. The research was performed on 6 lines and one variety of industrial tomato. The content of vitamin C, vitamin E, lycopene, β-carotene, phenols, flavonoids, dry matter and total antioxidative capacity was studied by applying standard methods for determination of the level of these parameters. Grouping was performed according to traits of average carotenoid content (lycopene, β-carotene), vitamin C, vitamin E, phenols, flavonoids, dry matter and total antioxidative capacity in tomato fruit, by applying PCA. The first two principle components were responsible for 77.18 % of total variability of researched samples. The impact of other five components was low and they were responsible for 22.18 % of the variability. Antioxidative activity was best preserved after finishing, through small losses of lycopene and β-carotene. Losses of vitamin C, vitamin E, phenols and flavonoids during thermal processing were great, mostly in juice, while in dried product, these losses were lower. Nutrient losses were in function of temperature height that the fruits were exposed to during the thermal processing. Genotypes SPRZ and SPSM were marked as the best.
AB  - Selekcija linija paradajza namenjenog industrijskoj preradi prema osobinama koje definišu njihovu nutritivnu vrednost predstavljaju potencijal koji će se reflektovati u proizvodu dobijenom od plodova paradajza. U isto vreme ispitan je i tehnološki proces pripreme soka paradajza (100 °C) kao i sušenje plodova na toplom vazduhu, kako bi se utvrdio optimalni tehnološki proces koji najmanje narušava prirodni potencijal nutrijenata sadržanih u svežim plodovima. Ispitivanje je sprovedeno na 6 linija i jednoj sorti industrijskog paradajza gde su ispitani sadržaj vitamina C, vitamina E, likopina, β-carotina, fenola, flavonoida, suve materije i ukupni antioksidativni kapacitet, standardnim metodama za utvrđivanje sadržaja ovih parametara. Grupisanje je izvršeno prema osobinama prosečnog sadržaja karetinoida (likopen, β-karoten), vitamina C, vitamina E, fenola, flavonoida, suve materije i ukupnog antioksidatinog kapaciteta u plodu paradajza, pomoću PCA analize. The impact of different thermal processing of tomato to its antioxidant activity, vitamin E, dry matter and sugar content

AB  - The objective of this study was the determination of total antioxidant activity, contents of vitamin E, sugar and total dry matter in fresh and thermally processed (dried and juiced) tomato fruits of different selected tomato lines with the aim to establish the nutritive profile and distinguish superior genotypes in order to obtain high-quality final product with more benefit to human health. Content of vitamin E, total antioxidant activity, dry matter and total sugars, in fresh and dried fruits (dried in parallel hot air dryer at 60 °C, until the final product reached the moisture lower than 10% and in tomato juice pasteurized at 100 °C, for 7 minutes) was studied. Comparative trial with 7 genotypes: one commercial variety (SP-109) and 6 selected high inbreeding generation lines (SPP, SPSM, SPRZ, SPRM-20, S-60 and SPO), was set up. Genotype SPRZ had the highest vitamin E content and total antioxidant capacity, both in fresh fruit and after the treatments. Thermal processing by drying at 60°C and pasteurization of tomato changed the level of total sugar and dry matter content. Total antioxidant activity decreased by drying, comparing to fresh fruit while the level of vitamin E decreased in juice pasteurized at high temperature (100 °C). .
AB  - Cilj istraživanja je određivanje ukupne antioksidativne aktivnosti, sadržaja vitamina E, sadržaja šećera i ukupne suve materije u svežim i termički obrađenim (sušeni plodovi i sok) plodovima različitih selekcionih linija paradajza, sa ciljem utvrđivanja nutritivnog kvaliteta i izdvajanja superiornih genotipova, čijom preradom bi se dobio kvalitetniji krajnji proizvod sa pozitivnim dejstvom na ljudsko zdravlje. Ispitivani su sadržaj vitamina E, ukupna antioksidativna aktivnost, suva materija, i ukupni sadržaj šećera, kod svežih plodova, sušenih plodova (sušenje toplim vazduhom na 60 °C, do konačne vlage uzorka manje od 10%) i soka paradajza (pasterizacijom na 100 °C, u trajanju od 7 minuta). Izveden je komparativni ogled sa 7 genotipova, jedna komercijalna sorta (SP-109) i 6 selekcionisanih linija (SPP, SPSM, SPRZ, SPRM-20, S-60 I SPO) visokih generacija inbridinga. Termička obrada plodova paradajza (sušenjem na 60 °C) i pravljenjem soka dovodi do promene ukupnog sadržaja šećera i sadržaja ukupne suve materije. Ispitivanjem ukupne antioksidativne aktivnosti utvrđeno je da se ona gubi sušenjem u odnosu na svež plod, a sadržaj vitamina E se smanjio u soku koji je dobijen obradom na višim temperaturama (100 °C). Genotip SPRZ imao je najviše vrednosti za sadržaj vitamina E i ukupan antioksidativni kapacitet kako u svežem stanju tako i nakon primenjene obrade. Izborom superiornih genotipova i akumulacijom nutrijenata kroz oplemenjivačke programe, može se poboljšati kvalitet krajnjeg proizvoda i postići dobijanje prerađevina sa većim pozitivnim uticajem na zdravlje ljudi.

Mode of inheritance and AMMI analysis of onion (Аllium cepa L.) bulb traits

AB  - The success in growing agricultural plants depends on genotype grown, environment and growing technology applied. The impacts of these factors should not be studied separately. Interaction among genotypes and environment was crucial for breeding work and improvement of variety characteristics. Very often in production practice it happens that when comparing the same varieties in different soil and weather conditions they are ranked differently. One of the key aims set at the breeders is breeding for the traits of wide adaptability and calculating of the complex components of genetic variance which is the main condition for successful breeding program such as breeding for increased yield and yield components. Trial was set up at random block system in five repetitions. Ten onion genotypes from the Institute for Vegetable Crops germplasm were used in this trial. After choosing the most stabile genotypes, they were crossed by applying full diallel without reciprocals. Then, a field trial was set up with parents and hybrids of F-1 and F-2 generation. The experiment has been set up at the trial field of the Institute for Vegetable Crops in Smederevska Palanka, for three years. The best adaptability in the experiment, for mass of the onion bulb had genotypes Makoi bronzi and Holandski zuti, while for average yield, it was Jasenicki crveni. Also, components of genetic variance in both progeny generations were calculated for mass, yield and height of fresh bulb. The most common heredity mode for mass and yield of the bulb was super-domination and domination of a better parent.

AB  - Cover crops are specific system of growing and mainly cover the surface of the soil during the winter, improve the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, water regime, increase the content of nutrients, reduce weed control and contribute to the achievement of higher yields of the main crops. The positive impact on the higher yields in the main crop is the result of lower infestation and increased competition for the main factors of growth and development and through secretion allelopathic compounds.
The experiments were performed in 2014 on experimental field of the Maize Research Institute in ZemunPolje (Belgrade, Serbia). We have includedthe following types of individual winter cover crops: common vetch, oat, fodder kale and field pea; Mixtures: common vetch + oats, field pea + oats; and two controltreatments:deadorganicmulch- soilcovered with strawin autumnand winter time, andconventional (traditional) variant– bare soiluncoveredduring fall andwinter time. Sowing cover crops is carried out in the autumn, the elemental plots of 35 m-2. Mowing and soil incorporation of cover crops was carried out in late April or early May, when the crops were most abundant. Sowing popcorn (ZP 611k) was done manually in mid-May at a density of 65 000 plants ha-1. In both years, in the phase of intensive growth of the main crop, is determined total number of weed species, total number of plants per species and fresh biomass per m-2.
In a year that was rich precipitation (2014), the highest grain yield obtained with legumes cover crops and the lowest in traditional variant, classical plowing in the fall and keeping bare land uncovered during the winter. We can be concluded that higher yields of popcorn by sowing cover crops in sustainable farming systems in a semi - arid regions.

Effects of continuous fertilization on the cucumber seedling quality

AB  - The research on the effects of continuous fertilization on the cucumber seedling quality was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade. The examined cucumber plants grew under artificial light (MH 600W). In addition to light, temperature and relative air humidity were also controlled. The research was carried out on the hybrid cucumber Caman RZ. The plants were cultivated in 10.5 cm diameter pots filled with the Terracult TC 10 substrate. The experiment contained three variations. In the first variation (0 – control) the plants grew without fertilization. The plants from the second variation (1) were fertilized only once using the crystal fertilizer Fitofert Kristal (10:40:10), while the plants from the third variation (2) were continuously fertilized using the organic mineral fertilizer Fitofert Humistart (4:12:5). During the nursery period, the development of the examined plants was monitored on a weekly basis. The research lasted for 32 days (sowing/transplanting). There was a significant effect of fertilization on the development of cucumber seedlings. Also, it was proven that there was a positive impact of continuous fertilization on the reduction of the nursery period (economic efficiency).
